Hi experts! I am off to the USA this weekend and while I won't get to any cellar doors this trip (too much time visiting the in-laws) I'm sure I'll be drinking plenty of the local wines.

As it is going to be stinking hot most places, we'll primarily be drinking whites (a few reds over dinners, but I'm ok ordering them) and would love any suggestions on good wines to look for on a wine list or bottle shop... Rieslings and Chardonnays mostly. Lean, dry Rieslings, a la Clare Valley and say Yarra Valley style Chardonnay, that is, not big, buttery and oaky!

Thanks in advance

I recall @RooFlyer or @JohnM posting something on Russian River Valley wines - they have a good reputation for Chardonnay, PN and Zin, but I have no idea about Oak treatment

I’ve tended almost exclusively to reds in the US but I have had a Chardonnay from the Russian River area that was very stylish. Can’t remember the name. Pinots from there are very good, so that is indicative for good Chardonnay.

I don’t know whether the trend to Italian whites is playing out in the US as it tends to be here, but that’s what I’d be looking out for if I was seeking tippling whites in the US in hot weather.
