I think airport transit hotels could end up very busy if there are more bans. Someone may leave country A on the way to country C and change planes in country B and then find they can't go forward to C or back to A.

The immigration queues will probably be much shorter with a lot less travellers. The first line of defence will be people cancelling or deferring travel. The second line will be at the checkin desk. That should weed out significant numbers who haven’t heard the news. Then the third line is immigration.

Yes they do. And apparently it specified that the ban applies to anyone who has been in the EU's Schengen border-free area within 14 days prior to their arrival in the US.

That would be me. I get details like that muddled up when I'm stressed. Even at the Exit interview in Australia to go to the US I don't know it was coming and damned if I could remember the cruise line we were cruising on.

That seems clear now but it is going to be difficult to police. UK passport holders going in / out Schengen will have no evidence in their passport. They may even live inside Schengen but their passport won;t demonstrate this. If they fly to US from UK how are the Yanks going to know?

They won't and can't. Will be self declared honesty system and you know.....

Whilst this will happen probably two things that may mitigate this:
1) you don't @*&#( around with US immigration, and it is an offense to lie on an immigration form. Unless you want to risk severely curtailing your future rights to travel to the country if you get caught out.
2) the spectre of getting sick in a country where a couple of days in hospital could set you back $100K.

My bet/opinion is its already widespread in the US anyway they just were far too slow to recognise the threat

Just like Indonesia. The UK lady who died yesterday - Jakarta did not tell Bali medical people it was Covid. Bali can't do its own tests and they are sent to the capital.
