Next year I was hoping to get to USA and I usually fly with Singapore as I've felt the points/conversion rates and 15% promotions were fairly good value. Given Singapore is a little off path, may I ask some of you more experienced AFF'ers if you still think SA is the best option or am I better off converting my points to Velocity? I've not done a business class long-haul flight with Virgin before and I'm not aware of any promotions.

As far as I'm aware they are my only two options with my points unless I go through Altitude Travel which doesn't appear to be good value if you are trying to get the most out of your miles like I am.

All suggestions and/or tips will be appreciated.

Regards

Michele

Velocity is currently a great option as there is a 15% bonus for transferring points to velocity, plus 15% off award flights. The other great thing is they don't charge fuel surcharges like SQ and QF, you only pay real taxes. This means that after your points cost you will only be up for about $150 on your rerun business flight to LAX. The transfer and discount bonus finishes 31st of Oct.

Thanks for the info, I didn't see anything about this when I looked at Velocity so appreciate the heads up.

Cheers

One phone call, pushed through to 4 operators and 3 different figures given for how many points I need to transfer to Velocity to go to LA from Canberra via Sydney returning NYC to Canberra. 1.5 hours later and I still don't know how many points to transfer LOL I think I'll try again on Monday. Can someone suggest a "time" I can call where the operators may be easier to understand?

Put a post in to the Velocity forum where you will get more responses. I don't have much experience on the virgin side of things but it should be very easy to check how many points are required. Your bigger issue could be availability which I would be checking first.
