US State Dept warning on travel to or transiting Hong Kong

I flew into and out of HKG about a fortnight ago on seperate airlines and neither had my middle name on the ticket and no one questioned me about it. I am a gweilo.

Had a great time there. In my opinion it has the second best harbour in the world.

Hong Kong is even easier than Singapore to enter, IME. I was born in HK and whenever I enter with my Aussie passport they’re rather bemused because my HKID is still the old unrenewed one that doesn’t open the gates, so they just wave me through after pretending to just look at my passport lol

Interesting point you make, Sir. I've been to both the city-state and SAR a few times, and I couldn't really distinguish any difference in ease of entry between the two.

On my last trip to Honkers, I was asked how long I intended to stay - the first time in at least 170 trips.

If I were to be locked up, I definitely have a preference as to which jurisdiction I would prefer to challenge any (trumped-up) charges.

Currently in the US and flew the MEL > HKG > ORD route with CX and entry was one of the best I have had here. From plane to exit door was around 30 minutes. And the staff were very pleasant, unlike MEL most times. Have to go over to Canada and coming back same thing, even when the MPC was not working. Only "incident" if you want to call it that, was some clown sternly told not to use their phone while on a video call waiting in line. Pity it didn't happen more often!
