Hi everyone,

I have a trip to the US in 3 weeks time. I need to book some internal flights, namely LAX-ORD-SFO, SFO-MCO-SFO, SFO-LAX and was wondering which airline to fly.

I'm QF SG and need 300SC to get to platinum.
I'm VA nothing, but will prob be silver by the time I reach the states.

Should I try and status match the QF to UA? I know UA sucks terribly, but does it suck anymore than any other US domestic airline? I will prob fly with a colleague on the SFO-MCO-SFO trip and they are UA Premier 1K so will prefer to fly UA...

Should I wait to try and status match when I'm a QF WP? I think I'll do a reasonable amount of Australian domestic travel and so will make platinum without concerns this year (first time!). I'll have another trip to the states later this year, and would do similar legs: LAX-ORD-DCA-ORD-SFO-LAX.

Or should I just go with the cheapest option?

Other trips planned (if it makes a difference):

SYD-ZQN-SYD
SYD-LHR-SYD
SYD-LAX-SYD
maybe SYD-NRT-SYD

I just realised that that is a lot of conference travel! Yikes. But I want to make the most of my FF statuses with whichever program since I'm doing a lot of flying BDB-BNE-SYD etc and just want things to be easy!

Many thanks in advance for all your advice. And happy easter!

I believe Virgin America fly all of those routes direct. If I were you I'd fly VX and credit it to VA.

Depending on your travel budget, those trips if booked as "NON REFUNDABLE" FIRST, "INSTANT UPGRADE" or Y/KUPP should easily get those 300 SC's for under one thousand dollars and Platinum could be earned for maybe another thousand (if you have enough time).

See the how to book 'em thread:

Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC's

I'm having a lot of joy with booking DL first at the moment if you're interested in VA status!

thanks everyone for your replies...

if i book a first class flight with AA, and am already QF SG, will i have access to a lounge? kinda hoping since i'll be half dead off that flight from syd!

As a QF One World Sapphire you will have access to any Admiral's Club before an AA flight.
