Ok just got off, booked payed and confirmed! Flights should be a great start to the honeymoon!

Taking the different approach of just letting her know up front that I had a couple of flights really helped in this instance. However I think she knew the game being played, as she asked for my Div account numbers after i mentioned this, was happy to do the flights, and at the end said 'thanks for doing all the hard work'!

So successful booking in Sept 2013:

ICN-LAX (F) OZ - destination

LAX-HNL (Y) UA - stopover.... no F or J available for the time frame I was looking at, but there were some there on other dates. Can't win them all!

BKK-SYD (F) TG - requires a short night stay in BKK before hand as this flight leaves in the morning, the A380 arrives at night. I assume that in-Airport Hotel should suit.

Nice itinerary - a bit of a shame NRT-BKK couldn't be in F, otherwise that would be a very comfortable 5-6 hour flight.

Yes thats right, but i think flight time is only 4 hours or so. I think all of the direct BKK-ICN flights depart at night, and nothing in F class.

correct. but sleep on SYD-BKK. Have a meal and watch a movie on the BKK-ICN. Shower in ICN. Then sleep all the way to the USA. The BKK-ICN flight is actually a perfect 5 hours to eat, drink and watch movies :)

I will keep a look out and see whether or not they release F seats on this flight (and pay the change fee if worth it).... not sure whether it will get opened up closer to the date or not. last thing I want to do is look at KVS again (until I book some flights for my parents that is)

no F class, but there is a 77J operating BKK-ICN-LAX with full flat beds in the new business class. But it departs in the morning.

your itinerary seems to prove that they're not being too strict on MPM requirements. Which is great news!

There's a few nice hotels near BKK and most have free shuttles, so that should be easy enough.

Ha.. the first couple I spoke too had that tone of voice which you just knew that it was going to be their way or the highway.... not that I got that far with them to be put on hold only to be rejected.

It is quite tiring phoning up, trying to work through it all. I can see why a bit of frustration presents it self on this forum.

Pretty frequently. But hate to disappoint you... First class is just as boring as business or economy. After you eat and watch a movie, there is no other special attraction to keep you occupied (there is only so much you can eat or drink, and there's no Moulin Rouge or Cirque du Soleil floor show). you're just sitting there like everyone else :) except... you get to be able to stretch out and sleep! (so I do).

And like anything else, you get used to it and eventually end up dispensing with most things unless there is something new on the menu. That doesn't mean you're not grateful to be there... just that you sometimes simply get on, have a warm drink and go to sleep, nothing else.

Yep, definitely no mention regarding MPM requirements. But the first 3 agents I all spoke to didn't see anything via BKK when I suggested it (only via ICN in J), and then there was a bit of a wall when I said I know there is F class to BKK!

Definitely worth trying multiple times to get a generous and helpful agent

SO regarding these PNR numbers.. got the PNRs for each airline, I'm guessing now I need to adjust seat numbers according so partner and myself are together.

OZ - On their website? - after joining OZ club
UA - website?

I already explained OZ... just enter your ticket number. no need to join. make sure your first name an middle name (if any) are joined, no spaces when entering in to the OZ site.

however, that all being said, you should call each airline, and after selecting seats ask whether they have ticket numbers against the booking.

that's a vital step to ensure your booking won't get cancelled. you should do this as soon as you can, but not later than 72 hours (which is the usual auto cancel period). (even if you can bring your booking up on line it doesn't mean it is valid for travel... it must have a ticket number)

Good tip. Just confirmed seat numbers with Thai Airways. The ticket number she gave me, said it was a US Airways number (makes sense I guess), was one starting with 037. With 1 number for all flights. I assume the other airlines will have this same number, so it is just a matter of confirming that the airline system has this number against the booking?

Or are we looking for individual flight ticket numbers.

Rang through to US and Asiana as well... all have the same ticketing number, but Thai and Asiana seem to be missing the final digit from the US Airways number, dont know if thats a concern or not.

there is one ticket number for the entire trip (might be two ticket numbers depending on the number of coupons etc). The last digit is not required as it is the coupon number. so you will have 037 xx_xx_x etc then 1, 2, 3 and 4

as the ticket is issued by US it will be 037. Normally you just ask US for this at the end of your call, then call the other airlines. You don't relly need them to confirm the actual number, just that they have a ticket number at all.

A PNR is just that - it is a record of your reservation. A PNR can exist even if all the segments have been cancelled or flown. For a PNR to be valid it needs a form of payment, and that payment is the ticket number.

The ticket number is king. You need the PNRs though for an airline to easily find your reservation.

you should check your reservations frequently. At least once a month, and weekly/daily immediately prior to departure. If there is a schedule change, US will not likely proactively contact you to tell you. If that schedule change means your flights don't connect, or your class of service is not available, you will need to work with US to find alternatives, based on award availability. So the earlier you find out about it the better.

looking at your booking via USDM is not easy. You may need to fiddle with the address in the browser. About 3/4 of the way along is a sting with the date in it. You need to manually change that date to reflect your actual departure date then hit enter.
