US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Is this a valid itinerary? JFK-LAX (stop) LAX-HKG HKG-SIN SIN SYD? US Airways says no because they got confused between my destination and my stopover and then when I argued that, they said something about regions or zone. The only thing I can think of is that it traverses/stops in another region (South Asia) on the way back from HKG, but I recall people have booked flights PER-KUL-NRT-JFK before which also traverses regions.

It's NOT valid because it exceeds MPM (maximum permitted mileage)

MPM SYD-LAX is 11242 miles (as per bcworld's chart). Going via SIN kicks you well and truly over. (Actually even via HKG is over, but as it's about the only way you can get to LAX, save for QF, USDM seems to allow that routing).

The MPM from PER is much higher, hence the allowed routing you may have seen elsewhere.

Is QF MEL-PER then QR PER-DOH and BA to LHR a valid route toward the UK??
I called up and got told no but i'm not sure about HUACA.

Doesn't seem anything wrong in my book so far (though we know nothing more about timing, stopovers, etc.). I assume you have the same routing back and forth. Try again.

Thanks US stated Perth isn't a hub so can't connect there. All connections are under the 24 hour t1me limit. I call again and thanks for your reply.

I recently got this response (twice) when trying to book a MUC-DOH-PER-BNE leg. Keep trying - you are allowed to transit PER (just not stopover there).

Is there a rule about no stopover in the same region as your destination? My existing itinerary has a stopover in LAX (dest is JFK) and that was ticketed successfully. Now I want to change it but with the same stopover in LAX and dest JFK and they are saying it's illegal.

There hasn't previously been any such rule. But lately there been lots of new talk about itineraries not passing through certain IATA zones, and we had the report earlier today saying a transit in PER wasn't allowed.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on.

but the rules as it stand don't prohibit it. Is there something else about the itinerary that is illegal? In many cases agents aren't entirely sure of the real reason, so just tell you something they think is wrong with the itinerary. (For example on my last itinerary the agent said i couldn't back-track between SFO and LAX... but on further investigation it was actually MPM that was exceeded by 88 miles).

I have a feeling it's MPM because on the way back im going JFK LAX (stop) HKG MEL SYD whereas previously I went JFK LAX (stop) HKG SYD which was ticketed fine.

you new routing is within MPM for the total JFK-LAX (14993 miles MPM), although has been pointed out before, sometimes USDM will apply MPM on a 'per trip' if you have a stopover. LAX-HKG-MEL-SYD is well over MPM, but then so is a straight out LAX-HKG-SYD (although I think USDM seems to be allowing the LAX-HKG-SYD routes for some reason).

technically JFK-LAX-HKG-MEL-SYD the stopover is not on the most direct route, and potentially exceeds MPM. So they can decide to disallow it. As there might be notes in the booking, trying to get it changed could be difficult. Although worth trying maybe one more time.

according to this US Airways Award Stopover Rules And OneWorld Hubs - One Mile at a Time there is a rule that you're not allowed a stopover in the same region... :(

gonna try again anyway...maybe in the middle of the night their time when hopefully less experienced rates desk people are on. If that fails or if there are notes on the booking, let the hold lapse and try again lol

FYI the first reason they gave for denying it was that I had two stopovers (JFK and LAX). They seem to not know the difference between a destination and stopover. After they argued that, they gave me the stopover rule.

You need your Amadeus PNR. Normally it's included in your US booking. If not, just ring your operating airline and tell them your name, flight date/number and they will find your reservation number (PNR). It's that simple, really. A 15 second phone call

ask them to show you the rule. there is none.

people have stopped in Hong Kong on the way to China, or in various European cities in the way to other European cities.

you don't need an e-ticket number to manage your booking on cx.

however, I'm assuming you have an eticket number. if the cx agent couldn't see one you might be in trouble.

Apparently not she said I need to call whoever I booked it through to get eticket.
