All,

Might not be the right FT thread for this, but I'm currently kicking backside on my keyboard trying to work out the best way to get my housemate to the UK so he can get a few last days with his dad before he 'crosses over'.

Currently looking at the following routings and costs, all inclusive of taxes, fees and credit card surcharges.

SQ226 08 DEC PER-SIN
SQ328 08 DEC SIN-MAN
SQ327 01 JAN MAN-SIN
SQ223 02 JAN SIN-PER
AUD 2673.42 all in

EK425 08 DEC PER-DBX
EK019 08 DEC DBX-MAN
EK020 02 JAN MAN-DBX
EK424 03 JAN DBX-PER
AUD 2896.82 all in
Does anyone have any tricks up their sleeve to get either of these of these fares down (promo codes for EK, other ideas).

All and any help greatly appreciated as usual.

Depending how flexible your housemate is with his return date, KLM have some cheap fares - departing 8 December.

Qantas is around $2811 if you select London rather than Manchester... perhaps worth considering.

On dates mentioned.
QF PER-SIN-PER $1023 AUD (QF website)
QF SIN-FRA-MAN-FRA-SIN $1730 SGD (zuji.com.sg)

~ Total $2430 AUD

In the scheme of things, just pay the money for the most direct, easiest routing.

The first one has the least stops - go with that unless the EK timings are significantly better. Avoid the extra stops on the QF routing just to save $200.

Would seem that either SQ or EK would be the best options; EK has good connections in DXB to UK so would work nicely and SQ shouldn't be bad either

I definitely wouldnt be messing with multiple tickets and the associated risks in a time critical situation

Which option did your housemate end up going with? I've been in that situation of having to sort out a friend's urgent flight at the last minute and I know it can be a bit nerve wracking.
Plus being in Perth we don't always get the same level of competition on these routes that the east coast cities get.

Thanks for the help everyone. Ended up flying EK, PER-DBX-MAN return as it was the simplest, got him there as quickly as possible and was as close as possible to home.

Also just got a message from him, the lucky bugger got ODU'd to J from PER-DBX. Check-in agent just upgraded him, no reason, no request. Needless to say, not happy with him at all ;)

...but his dad is dying:rolleyes: I'm sure he'll swap this and all future upgrades if he could so that his dad is around a little longer:shock:

Well, update on this one. His old man pulled through, and he's just sms'd me from DBX...

He got upgraded to business.. again! DBX-PER.

Some people have all the luck.

I wonder why he got lucky? My brother did this route about 6 months ago and on both PER-DBX and his return on DBX-PER he said the economy section of the plane was only about a third full. He was able to claim an entire centre row and make himself a bed across it!
