You have earned your 200 SC for this year you have plenty of time to re-earn your Gold status. If you sign up for the DSC promotion currently running you might get it a lot sooner than you think. You also have not lost your SC they are in the pool towards life time status. Good Luck

Welcome to AFF Alex.Don't worry about most of the responses.Fairly typical when some one criticises QF.OK to be told once or twice but everyone needs to have their say.
I hope you stick around.You will find lots of advice and hints for more productive flying and most are actually quite helpful.

but by the same token it's an ambit claim. Fully entitled to do it, but should not complain too much when denied.

But yes as a new poster welcome and hopefully they will stick around and learn how to make use of things like the DSC promo and other ways to maximise SC, retain and build status and have a better experience.

To be fair to the OP if they find this a particularly annoying feature of QFF they may find the rolling 12 month status credit system used by Velocity more appealing.
So their threat to switch to VA may not be as silly as it evidently sounded to some.

Although the OP has not mentioned this as being relevant. It was more about wanting to dump QF for not bending the rules for the OPs benefit. That was my take on it. However, no harm in trying another airline.

Anyway, most of us have made mistakes with flights/planning/etc at some time. We learn from those mistakes and make sure that they are not repeated.

However, for those chasing status and the benefits, what better time to do it than when there’s a DSC offer to be had.

Surely after 30 years with QF you should be approaching Lifetime Gold?

Not always the case, I originally joined as a QFF member in 1992 after AN lost the government/ defence contact. My original QFF number was as some would now describe it as' an old fart number' i.e begins with a 2 and only a few numbers after that. Fast forward to 2015, my account was hacked and I was given a new 10 digit QFF number and whatever the QF agent did to the account all SCs were lost. As compensation I was credited with 8 LT SC and my status was retained. It is not always as simple as it seems. For the record I am LTG, it took about 22 months with that new number.

Sharing feelings of some unfairness by an airline is a valid reason to join and post on AFF.

A large proposition of posts on AFF - even from longstanding members - is some type of complaint.

Possibly one way of looking at it OP you have a huge start to your new year.
If you use the DSC offer currently around and get Gold in a couple of months you get to retain for an extra year

Sometimes dropping to Silver if you are able to re-qualify early into your status year can be better as you will get the remainder of the year plus the following year.

DSC promotions do tend to allow us to get creative.
