Upright vs Spinner luggage

When the expected occurred, and one wheel was "airlined" (pushed off its bearing), I simply rang Delsey, and they mailed me 2 new wheels (there are left and right), and it took about 5 minutes to unscrew the old one, and replace.
Why didn't you get the airline to repair it? I've had bags replaced and repaired by Virgin, Etihad and Qantas with no hassles or dispute whatsoever.

Travelpro?

For those who can't find them, you aren't looking hard enough.

I just went down the Travelpro route after using Delsey for the last 2.5 years and it beginning to fall apart. The Travelpro's are built strong and receive a lot of testing.
The one pictured is the Crew 5 22" Pilot Expandable, which has a few extra pockets and extra structure suitable for pilots daily-use, but the non-pilot version looks great too.

I personally hate spinners for the same reasons posted here. The loss of space due to wheels, and vulnerability of the wheels to damage. A properly packed & weighted bag upright bag can mean less force is required to wheel them along than a spinner....my Travelpro above will roll along with little force (ie. completely balanced) required to hold the handle up.

At close to 4.5 kg that's a heavy bag. Not much use for anyone trying to travel HLO and keep under 7 kg.

+1 and the space taken up by the useless hanging out wheels. Not handy in a car boot...

Cheers skip

Not sure what brands people are buying where the wheels break but my Samsonite (early non curv hardcase) has done at least 10 RTW trips.
Love them so much just purchased 2 new cosmolites for a family trip RTW

Totally agree that spinner cases are to be shunned. The main problem I have with them is that can take off when your back is turned. Any paved surface with the slightest fall means the case has a mind of its own. Another thing is the wheels on a two wheel case are larger and more able to cope with rough surfauces.
Now one more pet hate and that is those cases which have handles that lie flat against the case body. Try getting one of those off a fast moving carousel.

My samsonite case has had wheels break off on 4 occasions.
They've been replaced by Etihad, Qantas and Virgin.
The case should have its own frequent flyer membership!

I have seen so many of these cases take off down the middle of subway trains isles and people had to chase them.

My +1 bought new carry-on today and insisted on 4-wheeler. Now we have a stand-off between her brand new Samsonite and my 3yr old 2-wheel Rimowa (both cost similar) to see which will brake first...

More importantly, which one is faster to the lounge / gate?

Victorinox still make 2 wheeled cases. the Werks used to have unlimited lifetime warranty but I think it started costing them as it covered even carrier damage (basically no one else does this) so the new ones have a more limited warranty.

Trying to find two wheelers is hard! I tried to find a two-wheel suitcase a couple days ago and nothing. Ended up with an Antler spinner from PetersofKensington. At least it was soft sided so no need to open a clam shell (and a bargain at $125)

I have a couple of 2 wheelers and a couple of 4 wheelers. Prefer the 4 wheelers and unlike anyone here have never had one take off, I don't find it that hard to put my foot against it when I need two hands for something.

Matt
