I am sure this question has been asked ad nauseum but I was wondering, what kind of point values am I looking at to upgrade from Economy to Business for return flights to London mid next year?

I have points with both QANTAS and Virgin.

And remember if you purchase an eligible fare to upgrade on QF it doesn't mean you are guaranteed the upgrade even if you have enough points.

On virgin you could only upgrade to Abu Dhabi and then go economy from there which would be 45,000 points. ( you also have to be gold or platinum with velocity)

But do you have any status with either of them? If not it will be a real lottery and probably not successful.
