What's the latest on upgrading family members on QF international flights?

eg: my dad and mum are both QFF Gold. I am a WP.

If i request an upgrade for them, will they jump ahead of the Gold que and be waitlisted with the other WPs?

thanks

Chucksta

The website says based on the upgradee but empirical evidence may indicate otherwise...

In practical summary.

If you request the upgrade it may be rated against your WP status but at worst it will process against your parent's Gold status.

I can only report what happened to me

I tried to upgrade mrs c to business to make up for the fact that 16 yo delinquent got an opup on etihad to paris (nothing to do with me)

No such luck ringing the ff line last week for her
So today i asked for an upgrade for me to business leaving mrs c and teh other 2 delinquents in economy to hkg

It happened! (thank you the very pleasant FF operator who did it all for me including ringing me back at work and waiting whilst i was obviously a bit busy!)

Thus currently me in business and mrs c and 2 delinquents 3 seats behind in the front of y

Guess who gets a seat change in the qantas club?
There had better be major domestic brownie points in this!

For clarity did they confirm the upgrade more than 24 hours in advance of the flight - that is not the disclosed process.

I would not expect them to have confirmed and upgrade during the week running up to the flight as the process is that upgrades need to be requested more than 24 hours out and are only granted within 24 hours of the flight.

I don't understand the last 2 lines - did other family members also get an upgrade?

For my answer

I only asked for 1 upgrade

We are actually on all point redemption's ie all 4 of us were on points reward flights in economy, thus you can't ask for upgrades. (booked 5 months ago)

What i did was ask for a business seat to be made available for my wife as a new points booking last week (declined by the yield management gurus)
I then asked as a WP yesterday if a seat could be made available for me in business as a points redemption. (which it was)
Technically its not an upgrade but a new request for a business seat as a WP

I then cancelled the economy seat i was in at 2500 points penalty

Thus at the moment the booking says me in business and wife and 2 kids in economy, which will translate as wife gets seat in business and i get to suffer with the 2 delinquents , who when they learnt about AVOD promised to not speak for the entire trip!

Heres hoping!

Anyone in Sydney international QP tomorrow morning , I'm the one with a 12 yo boy, being shown around the QP by his 14 yo sister who has been there before!
and hopefully with a wife with a smile on her face!

and a HUGE thank-you to whoever it was on the forum that i learnt about ringing and asking for seats to be made available.

It means that my wife sees some reward for allowing me to go to all those conferences

I will more than likely be in the F lounge tomorrow morning on the way to AKL. Ric is also flying tomorrow morning although I have not heard back from him and I was going to try and get him into the F lounge even though we are on different flights.

Curretly in the business lounge ,
As much as i would have liked the first lounge i don't think i'd have got the 3 of them in!

Wife is saying she is happy to be in economy!

As A QF WP you can quite often get your nuclear family into the Qantas First Lounges in Oz.

You do not even have to ask, simply front up at the service desk. Be polite, happy and comfortable, you should be fine. Besides, If you don't try, you will never know.

(In MEL, I was able to get myself (WP), SWMBO (PG), 14 YO mini serfty and 13 YO niece into the F/L with no problem)

well i'm back

I would have tried the F lounge if i'd known but i was cranky with Mrs c about her non desire to use the business class seat i wangled at great effort and guidance from the list

Everyone on the plane couldn't believe it either!

Junior delinquent (12 yo ) offered to have it but that wasn't going to happen

Flew back vietnam air in y
No AVOD! and small seats

Now i know why i like business

Just got to figure out how i can do my CMB and PEK trip along with getting to Peru next year within the budget!
