I've got a SYD > LAX return flight in PE next month with my second cousin, it's all on one PNR and I want to upgrade both of us to J but just realised that eligible family members only covers 'First Cousins'.

How strictly is this enforced? How would they even know?

I guess I could call my TA and get them to split the PNR and just upgrade myself but wanted to help out my cousin as he doesn't fly much.

thanks for your help.

There's no way they could know and they wouldn't even bother to check if they could.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

When I have done phone award bookings for relatives - at the end of the process they have asked 'what relationship should I put down?'. Which is quite different to 'what relationship are they?'.
Now I am sure QF do enforce this at a level. When you book 50 award flights for different people and have millions of points go through they are going to shut you down as an operation selling award tickets commercially. Without the relative rule - they'd not have any real way to enforce the non commercial use of award tickets. Such schemes have been operated (according to what I have read in other posts).
