Upgrades with points or op ups on Qf code shares

Hi all,

As per the title does this happen/ is this possible? Trying to decide between qantas code share with emirates to Sydney or qf2.

As to points upgrades, no, with one exception - if your upgrade has been approved on QF (ie points have been deducted) and the flight is substantially delayed, they may offer to move you onto another airline in the upgraded class of travel. Happened to me when a SIN-LHR was delayed by ~5hrs, and was then offered a J seat on the BA service (after my points upgrade was approved for the QF flight). I declined the offer, as I hadn't flown J on the A380 before, and didn't want to swap the experience for an old BA J seat (747).

Op-ups on codeshares and partner airlines can and do happen, although generally speaking, the operating carrier will grant upgrades to their own elites before granting them to same-level elites from other airlines.
