Hi All,

Simple question that's hard to find the answer:

Work has booked flights for me in Economy.
I upgraded to business with points.
Now work has to change the flight (same day, new destination and time).
The flight is tomorrow morning, less than 24 hours away.

Have I lost my 16,000 points? or will they get refunded or the upgrade carried over to the new flight?

Thanks!

It's best you call the company you are flying with ASAP.

Damn, anything under 24 hours they take the points off you.

They said I lose the 16,000 points totally and my new flight will become Economy...

Expensive! Next time I will refuse work if they ask to change at short notice again.. lesson learned.

They used to let you keep the upgrade if there was U class availability on the new flight.

Another enhancement I guess :)

I think they are treating it as a new flight - and crediting the old one towards the cost.

Because initial flight was 2 leg, new flight is 3 legs.

Only consolation is I'll get more status credits out of it.. but I didn't have to use points.

Other lesson learnt - I'm not upgrading work flights anymore as I have no damn control. Will save points for private flights.

They still do this. OP said that he was directed to a new destination. IME they only let you keep the upgrade if you are routing the same but are simply requesting a different date/time.

I wonder if I can beg the checkin girl for a free upgrade. Never had one before but at least I have a reason now

Totally missed that.

That'll serve me for reading forums when I'm tired after work :)

Might not work if she is a he and/or is unimpressed with old, sexist chatter.

Hope you enjoy 54 E ;) :p

I tend to find turning up the queen in my case helps me here and there, but never managed an op-up (to be fair, I've never asked)

try and see if qantas can maybe sweeten the situation over by offering maybe a few first class lounge passes or business class lounge passes
