Just been checking my flights for tomorrow PER-SIN-LHR. Earlier in the day when I printed of my itinerary from check my trip, all printed as expected with my seating showing in J seats. Just went to print off another copy and now in addition to my confirmed J flight, I have a duplicate sector SIN-LHR showing waitlisted for the first class cabin.

Has anyone seen this before, last time I recieved an upgradefrom a request my QFF account showed points deducted on the mornign of the flight. I wonder if this may be a precurser to me getting the upgrade, assuming they dont sell the tickets in F or lots of Y no show's (I think they have oversold Y, and will have to upgrade some to J and thus some J to F.

Any thoughts comments please.

In my experience this is normal when you have waitlisted for an upgrade. It is not an indication of the likelihood of the waitlist clearing, just an indication that the upgrade request has been waitlisted.

You will know the waitlist has cleared if you see a confirmed booking in First Class.

Did you apply for an upgrade this time?

Normally if you have, you will be waitlisted into the next cabin a certain number of hours before you travel. At some stage after the waitlist happens, Qantas moves seats from cabins into Frequent Flyer fare buckets and starts doing the upgrades.

So what you are seeing is normal behaviour if you've applied for an upgrade. If you havn't... then something weird is occuring and your theory may be correct.

Yes I have requested an upgrade, but had not seen it happen like this before. I have been watching the seating on expert flyer for the past couple of weeks and am pretty sure they have oversold Y.

Only after I posted did I see another thread commenting on the check my booking waitlist item. Oh Well I wont get too excited just yet then.

Does the number of seats actually available determine how many waitlists they give, or does everyone who has requested get a waitlist, ie only 6 available seats but 12 upgrade requests equals 12 waitlists?

Will wait and see tomorrow morning then

I remember someone else commenting that they were waitlisted for the upgrade, but it never came through.

My assumption is that everyone who has applied for an upgrade will be waitlisted, and only the successful ones will have the waitlist clear, disappear and have the reservation moved into the next class.

I am not sure if it doesn't clear if it remains on your booking as a waitlist or disappears. Technically the upgrade could clear up to a few hours before the flight ... or even at the airport, although that is very unlikely to happen.

If 200 people request an upgrade, then the waitlist will be 200 people deep, and serviced based firstly on status (i.e. all CL members first, then Platinum members, then Gold, followed by Silver and then finally Bronze members. Within each FF membership status level the waitlist is serviced based on the date/time the upgrade was requested/waitlisted. The number of available seats has nothing to do with the depth of the waitlist.

:D Well the upgrade came through, I logged on this morning at T-16 hours for LHR leg and the points were gone with an upgrade notice to my account. My flight Per - SIN was about T - 8hrs.

Check my booking shows the fiest class is confimred but has no seating allocation - but hey I dont care, any F seat has got to be better than J, I know some F's are beter than others, but when you have used points to upgrade you have got to be happy.

Thanks again NM for this post and the other one over xmas.

Congrats on your upgrade. :D

If you would like a specific sat, simply call Qantas and request it. I have done this several times between the upgrade coming through and checking in.

I do this after using www.Checkmytrip.com or www.expertflyer.com to ascertain available seats.

Mind you, I had a look at Expert Flyer and both QF9 and QF31 for 15Jan are showing:

F0 A0 Z0 P0 J0 C0 D0 I0 U0 ... with the only WHY seating on QF 31:

Y6 B6 H6 K6 M0 ...

For QF9 only 1K and 2K are showing unallocated - QF31 has 3A, 3E, 3F & 3K free.

Give QF reservations or the FF service centre a call and they can allocate you a seat now that the waitlist has cleared.

Enjoy the F experience!
