Quick question that was being thrown about recently between a couple of friends.


Qf upgrade rank. regarding QC

is a WP QC given precedence over WP. seeing if its worth keeping the QC or not.

does anyone have a full list from the VVIP , VIP, CL, down

No such thing as Platinum QC - as QC gets put on hold once you reach Gold.
 
That's interesting that WP1 takes precedence over CL. I think that is appropriate but always thought it was reversed. Maybe WP1 should have access to CL in Australia.

Is this list from actual information provided to you directly from a knowledgeable source at QF or are you guessing?

I doubt a vanilla P1 outranks a vanilla CL (but I have no firm information to back that statement however, just experience as a P1).
 
I query the inclusion of OW status and EK status in this list when the issue is upgrade rank. You can only upgrade using QFF points; how could you do that unless you were travelling as a QFF member and therefore QF would have no idea of your other-airline status?

Are we talking about points upgrades or OPUP's as well?

The above list suggests a QF WP (OWE) on say CX or BA has a better chance of OPUP or points upgrade(assuming possible) than CX's Gold or BA Silver member.
Would QF or other alliance airlines preference other status members above their own for things like OPUP's and/or points upgrades? I would have thought they would preference their own members first before other airlines.

I have heard things about EK treating QF members like their own with OPUP's so perhaps the list is right. Although each airline has their own secret list on how they do things.
It would be good to verify the source and authenticity of the list.
 
The list above is clearly Qantas metal only and obviously includes OpUps as it mentions EK Platinum....

I have no issue with a P1 outranking vanilla CL... Qantas knows the P1's are their best revenue source and most worthy of free/points upgrades
 
I would guess CIP/VIP pax would be treated on a case by case basis, though they are probably already in the highest cabin and afforded every service anyway.

Given there are many CL who do not fly all that much it is absolutely appropriate that P1 is higher, just as a CLPO be at the top. I have no issue with that at all.

And why would QF *not* preference their own members elite status above partners - every airline does this. If I'm flying BA or CX I would expect their own elites to get preference for op ups or whatnot. Seems reasonable to me and at the very least if I'm flying on a partner using my QF status I have no real leverage with the operating carrier in terms of points or whatever. all I have is their agreement as part of the partnership to honour the status.

Of course other fsctors will come into play - for example if there's 1 seat avail for an op up and you have a QF WP couple on the list, then a AA Plat (OWS) next in status order that single AA pax would likely get the op up seat simply because they wouldn't split the couple(I imagine).

And I suppose there will be other exceptions of the pecking order such as the case of P1 sponsored family members having (slightly) higher priority in their tier level for upgrade processing, or a partner airline VIP/CIP.

i believe some members of the royal family were known to regularly book economy! Didn't tony Blair as well when he went on a family holiday? although i seem to recall they let him fly there without an upgrade!
 
I am with others on this one, as a general rule I do not think the EK and OW would come into it if you are asking about the QF upgrade lottery. Operational upgrades may look at partners but I would have thought (and hope) that a QFF on QF metal would still take priority. In the past have scored upgrades on EK and I worked colleague (with no OW status from any airline) who recently scored an upgrade on QR. I just take these if given but certainly do not expect or assume it will occur, as Richard mentions airlines should look after their own elites first.

I have asked QF directly about the international upgrade lottery pecking order and was informed CLP1 are at the top followed by P1 (family upgrades included) then moving down pecking order CLWP, WP, CLSG, SG etc. That is the simplest form. When it comes to actually getting the upgrade approved there are many other factors that come into the equation such as solo travellers, number of travellers in the booking, linked bookings, special requests, cabin type booked, time the request was made and a bunch of other factors. At this point it just seems to be a darkart and too confusing to understand. I think the only people who may know the answer are the programmers who wrote the upgrade algorithms. :)

CL is all about people that Qantas deem are important to them whether for business or political reasons. It is a marketing tool and is not a loyalty benefit.

CL may be given to someone who actually flies rarely but whose company may spend vast sums with Qantas and that they are deemed to bea key decison maker in taht occurring.

Yes. Am aware of all that. Doesn't negate the possibility of giving WP1 CL access for an even nicer experience.
 
When applying for an upgrade for a family member, does the family member have to be a QFF?

All of my immediate family are QFF members so I have not given it much thought. I would suspect that they do not have to be as you are requesting the upgrade on the booking reference number not the QFF number.
