Can someone tell me if I will receive advice from QF if my upgrade request (to SIN tomorrow) is unsuccessful? LTG husband has been advised that his was successful. We are on separate bookings.

I got no notice of my recent upgrade until I checked in and looked at the BP and it was the upgraded. You don’t hear if you don’t get it. And you may not hear if you do get it. It can come up right up to the gate.

On my past couple of flights, I didn't get an sms from Qantas to tell me whether I was successful or not, but when I was, I saw the points going out of my account. Maybe check that and you might get a pleasant surprise, or your husband offers to swap seats after takeoff :)

Thanks Kookaburra. He has offered (bless him)

If you haven't got notification the day prior your only other chance would be at the airport at flight close provided you ticked the 'opt-in' button to be considered for an airport upgrade. As you're in a separate pnr to your husband your upgrade priority would be based on your tier status and I believe class of travel eg H,K,S is also a factor.

Basically to get the upgrade to J on the day if there were two people above you on the list there would need to be 3 J class seats left when the flight closes and upgrades are processed in order for you to go up to J.

If the flight is QF1 and operated by the A380 hence a 4 class bird with an F cabin there's a possibility that J pax may have opted in for an F upgrade so that may free up additional J seats if those pax get bumped up to F.
