I am tired of being referred to the carriers terms and conditions when speaking to virgin
Why can I upgrade from flexi to business using points and not from saver to flexi.
All they can say its in the terms and cons, I don't want to hear that I want to know why.
I just want virgin to tell me why instead of hiding behind words... Frustrated today with service.
4 business class upgrades and heaps of points that I cannot use. it just doesnt make sense to me

The reason is pretty simple. You can't upgrade from Saver to Flexi using points because it's simply not a product that Velocity offers. It's not even a 'terms and conditions' thing.

In fact I'm not aware of any program that allows you to upgrade from discount Y to full Y using points.

Just as you can't upgrade from Y+ to F on QF using points. They simply don't offer it.

The whole point of a saver is that they are *NOT* upgradeable. That's why they are cheaper. If you want an upgradeable fare you need to pay for it.

I am going to take a complete stab at this and suggest that the reason may well be that no one thought of it.

I can understand the reasons you may want to do this (to get the inclusions - baggage, the food etc).

In your case, I guess the double hope save->Flexi -> Business. If that is the case, perhaps an extra tier of awards for those tryint to get from Saver to Business.

If you want To use your free business upgrades, just fork out for the fare difference plus change fee to flexi. It's still a bargain and definitely worth it on longer flights
