I do not fly domestically very often and just got an email offer for an upgrade bid for the following flights

SYD ADL VA428 19 Feb

and

ADL SYD VA 437 24 Feb.

I've paid a total of $270 for the flights which include exit row surcharges ($35 in each direction).

I would love to sit in Business, so what do the experts on this forum think is a winning bid.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experience with this process

Many thanks in advance

Adam

I think $300 each way should get VA bite...

Of course, the real question is what would YOU value it at? Value is very subjective. If you've not experienced J class then you may value the opportunity at a premium. What time are the flights? This will dictate the type of food service offered (ie snack/ dinner). Do you already have lounge access? If yes, you may be paying for this if your bid is successful. And remember, you'll only get Y SC's.

If I were you, as a VA gold and having already paid more for exit row seats, I'd put the absolute minimum bid in - more as a laugh than anything. Success might mean a nicer flight but a much lighter wallet. There are usually better ways of extracting value for domestic VA J.

Thanks for that

Departing Sydney at 1610 and Departing Adelaide at 1820, lounge access is a bonus, plus food service.

I normally fly Business internationally and anything over 4 hours, this is the first time I have come across this and really wanted to get my head around it. The exit row surcharge is a bit of an issue, I sometimes require a seat belt extender, and you can never tell which aircraft is doing the flight when you book, so I have to be moved - and then refunded the surcharge - as I discovered last weekend, and the ADL flights are already booked and surcharged. Will have a think about this - and meanwhile if anyone else wants to step in with some advice it would be good.
