Hi Everyone, I'm relatively new to flight upgrades as such.

I've booked a return flight to the states:

AA72 SYD-LAX (AA operated)
AA7375 DFW-SYD (QF operated)

I've tried upgrading the flight on qantas.com and it declines...

I have AAdvantage and QFF membership, but the points are on the QFF account.

How would I upgrade the return flight?

Mike

Needs to be a QF flight number I think?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

"Qantas Frequent Flyer members headed to the US can currently book a points-based upgrade only the Qantas-operated Airbus A380 or Boeing 747 flights."- hmm seems to imply I can if the metal is QF owned (see return flight).

I'm waiting on a callback from Qantas Customer Service to see what's what. 90 minutes and counting...

Here are a few things you need to know about international Classic Upgrade Rewards:

  • You need to have an eligible paid and confirmed ticket on a Qantas operated service (with a QF flight number from 1-199[SUP]~[/SUP] on your ticket).

Are you ticketed with a QF flt no.?

Qantas FF points can only be used to upgrade a flight with a QF flight number and operated by Qantas aircraft.

American Airlines AAdvantage miles can only be used to upgrade AA flight number of AA operated aircraft.

In your case, you have purchased an AA flight number on a Qantas aircraft. so cannot use QFF point or AA miles to upgrade.

If you wanted to upgrade on that flight, noting it is operated by Qantas aircraft, you would need to have booked the QF flight number and not the AA flight number.

no, it's an AA flight operated by QF.

Right, ok. As I said I'm a newbie to upgrades... :)

Thanks
