I did a quick search but couldn't seem to find anything? Thought this might be some good food for thought for someone? Recently just booked two cheap PER-MEL return in Y for my dad and myself. Done the seat selection and put me in 25B and him in 26B for both flights on an A332.

Having a look on ExpertFlyer for our flights shows that he has been given a shadow(26A blocked). Whilst 25A (next to me) is still freely available.

I earn't my WP off a big LOTFAP SC run.. ;) Whilst my father (WP+) has 34,000+ SC to his name and i would predict that 30,000+ are from QF only. He has been WP for the last 10 years straight i would think?

Has anyone else come across this situation or something similar with QF?

I would be interested to know from others who earn WP off QFF solely encounter regular shadows when flying Y domestically? Or even if you have earn't your WP abroad? Have you received many shadows?

Can't say i am at all fussed about this as it makes perfect sense from a commercial view point, but thought i would share my discovery for the night!

Yes I get a shadow and Mrscove doesn't. I have been a WP for about 3 years longer.

I almost always get a shadow in QF Y dom. 5 year WP earnt mainly on QF international, but also quite a bit of OW int'l too.

All about PCV (perceived customer value) and how busy the flight is.

For instance as a PS I have received a shadow in the front row of Y on a transcon - perks of status and a light load :)

Indeed - the system is much more dynamic than people realise. Effectively, every person on a particular flight has their own level, and everyone is ranked based on their level.

Ah the joys of PCV. How we would love to know the maths behind this puppy.

I too haven't had much luck with shadows of late even though I'm close on P1, however over the years my historical PCV has been very low.
Of late ive swicthed some intl business to QF to hit P1 in an effort to get over the line which should raise my PCV a lot, but it depends on how long the the PCV is counted over etc.

Needless to say expect exactly what you pay for, that is a seat on a plane, and if you get anything else extra (like a shadow) then its a bonus.

90% of my travel is QF - domesitc flexi Y, international JASA, trans tasman paid J - and I always get a shadow on QF Domestic J and Y. Sometimes I lose it due to full flight, but it always appears on expertflyer.

ReLoad I agreed with your sentiments, but I do get cross when some NB is dumped into 1C when there is a half empty J cabin.

With nearly all my Qantas SC's from the Qantas group (mainly QantasLink), I'd hope my PCV is up there (or down there if lower is better :p) and indeed, I do find myself sitting alone a lot, unless it's a really full flight.
