United to remove passengers who use their phones and iPads on flights without headphones

Shake my head in disbelief at people wandering around the supermarket; phone loudspeaker on full volume airing their "personal" conversations to all & sundry.
As someone who can understand a handful of languages - I find myself in situations where I hear more than anyone needs to ... the person shopping at the supermarket that whinges about their better half to their folks back home, the person in the tram that says weird things about their coworkers, the person on the bus who thinks they are being *careful* using allegory - nah mate, didn't work as good as you thought it would ... you need to start using better metaphor ... or better yet, don't talk about *private* issues in public transport ...

After a couple of mins, I told them politely "hey looks like your headphones are not connected?".

She then goes "Oh, I know. I'm not using headphones".

I then said "can you reduce the volume please? it is too loud".

She then goes "Oh it is not that loud I'm sure".

I then go once again "Can you reduce the volume please, this is a public transport and some passengers are trying to read or rest".

She then goes "It is not that loud" and then proceeds to reduce the volume only slightly.

I give up and go back to looking out the window.

At this point I probably would have discreetly (if possible) asked a flight attendant to get involved.

Be careful what you wish for with UA.

I say that to peeps who complain about lack of wifi on board! Of course, pre-downloaded stuff is still readily available…hence a good move on UA.
Difficult from a window seat?
Call button? And the point to the middle seat PAX having trouble reading! 😂
