Went out full today and looking at the loads for the next week they do look pretty decent outbound.

Id imagine the SA government and tourism bodies won’t want to lose it so I’d expect it to be funded for many years ahead securing its future.

These 'deals' are always shrouded in secrecy.

What research do state governments do into how many passengers are inbound tourists or businessmen (in this case from USA and connecting airports) rather than Australian residents travelling to the USA?

Almost always, the 'economic benefits' claimed are grossly exaggerated.

Far better to let the market decide. Adelaide's population (and population growth) is minimal compared to the four much larger state capitals, and nearby tourism offerings such as expensive Kangaroo Island are internationally uncompetitive.

Waste of money perhaps but nothing new. The Victorian government handed out millions to international carriers, namely the middle eastern giants, to simply bring back normal schedules post Covid, something they would have done anyway.

Then we have Jetstar being funded at Avalon. NSW has loaded up Rex in the past as have QLD with Virgin.

Money isn’t an issue.

Might as well go to airlines (so travellers can get benefit) than all the other grifters that charge governments exorbitant fees because they can, whichever side of the ledger they fall (consultant, private sector company or union)
