Went out full today and looking at the loads for the next week they do look pretty decent outbound.

Id imagine the SA government and tourism bodies won’t want to lose it so I’d expect it to be funded for many years ahead securing its future.

Was keeping an eye on a few other ULH today and see if they can get it done nonstop. MEL-DFW seems ok at this stage, unknown if payload restricted though.

These 'deals' are always shrouded in secrecy.

What research do state governments do into how many passengers are inbound tourists or businessmen (in this case from USA and connecting airports) rather than Australian residents travelling to the USA?

Almost always, the 'economic benefits' claimed are grossly exaggerated.

Far better to let the market decide. Adelaide's population (and population growth) is minimal compared to the four much larger state capitals, and nearby tourism offerings such as expensive Kangaroo Island are internationally uncompetitive.

Waste of money perhaps but nothing new. The Victorian government handed out millions to international carriers, namely the middle eastern giants, to simply bring back normal schedules post Covid, something they would have done anyway.

Then we have Jetstar being funded at Avalon. NSW has loaded up Rex in the past as have QLD with Virgin.

Money isn’t an issue.

Might as well go to airlines (so travellers can get benefit) than all the other grifters that charge governments exorbitant fees because they can, whichever side of the ledger they fall (consultant, private sector company or union)

Would LAX indicate an issue at the SFO end that resulted in divert? I wouldn't imagine it would be a planned diversion (whereas HNL could well be) as LAX is ~100 miles further than SFO from ADL.

Nothing really wrong with it as such but many locals don’t bother going there. Maybe it’s the price, I don’t know. I’ve been over for work plenty of times and had a couple of leisure trips around the island but think there are better places in Australia

It’s not a road trip to get to KI

Neither the ferry nor flying is free nor cheap for Adelaidians. And without a car impossible to get around

They keep advertising about the great food on KI and the raw ingredients may be great but getting someone to cook them well unless you're at the Lodge is harder.

That's probably not completely true but have had some dire meals on KI
