I received an email today from United with a "special offer" to buy up to 15,000 PQMs (Premier Qualifying Miles)/15 PQSs (qualifying segments) between now and 30 April. For those not familiar with the program, these count towards status (so it's basically like buying status credits). The prices start at USD150 for 1,000 PQMs/1 PQS, which is rather on the high side.

Not sure if this is targeted or if it was sent to all MileagePlus members with status.

I will earn enough PQMs from flying to re-qualify for UA status next year, so won't be partaking.

I didn't receive the offer so I presume it's targeted. On a related easy status offer from a US based carrier, a few months ago AA gave me Platinum status (OW Sapphire) for 5 months...I only ever credited 4 flights to AA and that was five years ago!!!

I wonder if the PQMs count towards MM lifetime count?
