United MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge

OT, but how do you figure that?

eg SYD-LHR via SFO is 20% longer than via Asia (HKG/SIN/BKK) or even DRW. Plus you don’t need to enter the US of A both ways.

Very questionable also if it’s “least expensive“?
Yes i just had a look and the best i can muster is SYD-CDG via US on united metal for about $8000 return in Y! Its cheaper and faster to pay for Y+ with SQ - at least half the price

SQ early bird J fares in the mid to high $5k range!

yep spotted these too. Think i can kiss the UA status challenge goodbye :)
Somewhat academic if flying SQ. Generally SQ J trumps *A Gold anyway.

I've seen some United fares from Australia in Y+ to SFO, connecting in Y to western Europe, for around $3k return. This may not cover your travel dates, though.

Some details / updates on the program for 2023.

As usual, if you complete the challenge in the first half of 2023, you’ll have status through to Jan 2024 but if completed after 01 July, you get it to Jan 2025.

Also, a limit to once every 5 years still. I’m well past that, so have this in my back pocket if travelling on *A in the future (although a J ticket is usually the same or better).

Noting the “enhancements” to MP qual/requal, this may not be as attractive as it once was but still gives you 120 days free *A Gold if you have the equivalent elsewhere.

How does one go about getting all the documentation from QF as evidence? I've submitted the activity statement, but since QF doesn't list the status expiry, United won't accept it. No physical card these days either to show when status is expiring. Has anyone been successful with digital cards?

Status expiry is on the digital card in app.

I just fired of the UA SM myself for some upcoming *A travel. First time in a while for me (over 5 yrs - and I will have to wait another 5 years before doing it again!).

But as a data point, I sent a screen shot of my QF WP card from the iPhone App. Auto generated receipt email received at 11:08 and confirmation email granting UA Platinum status received at 11:22!

Note that the option to select a future start date is now mute. It will only let you select the start of Sep and status runs to 31 Dec 2023.

Received and email today offering AVIS President Circle status of the back of my “Trial” MP Platinum status. Clicked through and processed immediately.

I don’t recall seeing that connection before. Any idea how long that status will last?

Now i need to track down the Marriott SM!

Found the link to Marriott SM. Clicked through last night and app showing Gold status this morning.

UA Status Match has been updated for 2024. Usually rules apply.
The 5 year exemption rule would prohibit many of us. But then if you just want the benefits temporarily and don’t plan to build status or credit any flights to United, simply creating a new UA account will do the trick.

But then United may have kept details of any previous match, so your originating account might also need to be unique. That might be from another airline; it’s a long list of matching airlines. The ITA “GIFT” feature offering SkyTeam Elite Plus status Would do the trick just nicely.

I probably waited much more than 5 yrs to fire off my last match (Covid had something to do with that) but it was handy on some SQ flights booked with some residual UA miles! We used SYD+1’s QF WP aa other time to get lounge access flying around Central America on Copa.

Anyone doing a match from QF WP will get UA Premier Platinum. In addition to the obvious A*G benefits (and additional benefits on UA), there’s also the Marriott and therefore the new SQ tieup.

QF WP -> UA PP -> Marriott Gold -> SQ Silver FastTrack.

It would have been too good to be true to get instant SQ Silver and the SQ Gold FT but it’s an interesting twist for anyone looking to SQ to get on the *A status hamster wheel.

Just did UA status match for partner - whose DL GOLD is expiring 31/1/24. It looks like they are using AI as I uploaded a screen shot of account which was rejected automatically. I could then resubmit and I took a photo of the actual digital card with 1/24 as expiry. It instantly matched. I'll be matching my QF gold in August (have to wait as my last UA match was August 2019). Great to have UA gold and it is an incentive to pick UA for our next flights to and within USA. We've got TK in March/April so helpful to have one of us Star Gold!

I'm new to the game of airline status matching and would appreciate advice from the experts out there.

I'm a Qantas LTG and for the 1st time in a long time, I've booked a flight which is not QF or OW. I'll be flying SIA from Syd to Zurich on Nov 21, then returning from AMS via SIN in Dec.

I'm eyeing this UA status match just to give me access to SIA lounges as my chances of meeting their challenge is low. Not familiar with the entitlements of the Star Alliance policy on lounge access, but I'm just assuming that from the day I sign up to this challenge, I will have 120 days of access to SIA (and other Star Alliance) lounges. Would this be correct?

In terms of the timing for signing up, if I do this on the effectively latest date of Sep 3, that should cover me till the end of Dec given it could take up to 14 days for the match to be approved. Hope I've understood all this right.

Are there any gotchas I should be aware of?

You can actually nominate a start date. So that takes a little guess work out of when to apply.

But once approved for A*G, you should be able to access Priority checkin, extra baggage, possibly better seating, *A lounges and priority boarding.

Your UA Gold card will have “Trial” on it, so technically you may not be entitled to full Gold privileges but the that might actually be more in relation to UA benefits flying UA.

If you’re unlikely to meet the challenge now or anytime in the next 5yrs, it’s still a no brainer as a one off uplift. Sounds like you can make good use of it.
