Got an email from United overnight advising that they will increase the PQP/PQF requirements to earn status in 2023 for 2024.
There are also a few other things happening from next one with United MileagePlus:
I was planning to switch to a different Star Alliance program next year and this pretty much cements this. I have been looking at Aegean Miles+Bonus as an alternative to United.
That said, the new Star Alliance credit card also looks promising. With that, you should be able to earn United Gold status going forward by spending $60,000/year on your HSBC credit card, rather than through earning PQP/PQF and flying at least 4 UA sectors.
There are also a few other things happening from next one with United MileagePlus:
- Eligible members who earned United status in 2022 will get an automatic PQP deposit at the start of 2023
- From 2023, United award tickets will earn PQP and PQF. You'll get 1 PQP per 100 miles redeemed for a UA-operated flight
- Award ticket redeposit fees are being removed
