So basing your statement on that is as unreliable as your logic that you have used regarding Personal IFE (considering it is an optional extra). There are a lot of newer QF/DJ planes going around without Personal IFE...

Not non-stop transpacific from SYD-LAX...

My understanding is that the UA hard and soft product is cough compared to QF but the planes do fly...

You have misunderstood my comment. Personal IFE does not come as a standard feature when the plane is built. The airlines are the ones who decide whether they put personal IFE on the planes or not.

LH is another legacy carrier who did not install personal IFE on their B744's.

So by using Personal IFE (or lack of) as an indicator of an aircraft's age, it is flawed.
