AIRPORT TAXES = HIKE IN TICKET COST

The increase in taxes, charges and levies means our plane tickets are costing us more. The taxes devalue our frequent flyer points and robs the flying public from enjoying the benefits of cheap air travel.

Smells suspiciously like another ACA-style hatchet-job is coming up.

Here's my address: [email protected]

Pathetic bunch of whingers. Expect the usual suspects: that posturing communist limp-wrist from the ACCC, some loser from the "I lost 6 million Ansett points" crowd, and a pathetic bunch of no-hopers who will howl and scream to high heaven because it takes then 10 years of spending on their VISA to get a transcon flight in Y.

Of course, these coughs hardly ever fly, and missed the fine print somewhere where it mentions FREQUENT flyer.....

Touche Shillard, as soon as I saw the subject matter I knew you'd be there wading knee deep in replying.

To paraphrase Shillard (with copyright intact) "What utter cough". As Shillard and others have said in a previous posts here, it's never been cheaper!! (even notwithstanding the level of fees that we now pay). Remember what we used to pay, in dollar terms it's actually got cheaper...

Why don't they report on something worthwhile and grow a conscious, rather than beating up something that is far from the truth. All it does is debase the media (and shows like ACA) - as many have said "don't believe everything you hear in the media".

Flame retardant hard hat now firmly in place....
(Edited to correct spelling)

Yeah I think we're slowing getting used to all these slugs, but as Lindsay has pointed out elsewhere they definitely make upgrades look attractive in terms of "value for points" as there is no doubt that with taxes etc all being paid separately the value of a 20,000 point redemption is going down. I use a rule of thumb, if you can buy a fare for less than about 1.5c per point, it ain't worth redeeming.

Having said all that Qantas is stooping to new stingy lows. In their latest promotion on Quick Check - four return Business Class flights between two capital cities. Read the fine print and the winner is responsible for " all applicable airport charges, levies and taxes for the travel". For gawdsake they can spend loads of money stuffying flyers for the promotion into envelopes to send out with statements, they have banners, press advertising, give away four seats but they can't even cover a couple of hundred dollars worth of taxes for the winner...
