Is there a reason why i am unable to book a ticket on J through points...i am only Bronze but have sufficient QF points to cover a J class booking. I cannot even see the option to book business. Tried different dates but no option to book Business.

When booking on points using qantas.com you don't specify the booking class. It will show availability for the dates you select but only in the available classes. If there's no business class available for booking on those dates then there will be no business column

Thanks Serfty and all. I am trying to book BNE-SGN-BNE. My journey to be start on the 25th of May and start back on the 28th of May or start on the 26th and start back on the 29th.

That is one of the more popular flights mate, you need to get in real early for them. What month are you looking at?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you are looking at May this year, the horse has more than likely already bolted.

Just because you have the available number of points, it doesn't mean that a seat will open up for you, as Yield management will only release a small number of seats per flight. As a NB, you are down the pecking order, so it is slim pickings essentially.

Do you mean Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) or SIN? I see a seat in F on EK432 SIN-BNE on the 29th (connecting from a 3K flight SGN-SIN). There is also SGN-HKG-BNE on CX on the 29th.

An easy solution is to call Qantas and ask them to look for award space to you. They should have a lot more options at hand. Once they find something, write down the details, and book it on line to save the assistance fee.

Great...so you are saying that QF does not show all the availability and may have seats / options other than shown the website? Thanks Mel_Traveller

Some are sometimes made available for Frequent Flyers.

For what it is worth I book as far out as possible - for International as soon as they open which is just under a year.

The Golden Rule for FF redemptions is PLAN AHEAD - like 1 year. Especially on any route that is likely to be popular.

they may have seats on partner airlines, or combinations of QF/JQ services that aren't easy to get to show on line.

Adding SGN into the mix may restrict the options offered so it may be easier just to look for seats to/from SIN as that may give you some adfitional options via MEL or SYD.

Sector fares SIN/SGN on 3K are pretty cheap bought separately but note that if you have a same day connection BNE QF xSIN 3K SGN your bags would only be checked as far as SIN because QF won't through check to 3K on separate pnrs.

You could always purchase an airfare that is eligible for upgrade & request a points upgrade if you get no joy with award bookings.

there will be for sure seats on MH, at least one. MH seats do not show up on qantas, you can look them up on ba.com and ring Qantas to book them

edit:

actually, there's none out of BNE but you can fly out of Sydney on the 25th, it's just that you have to take separate flights out of KL:

Savvy flyers book 12 months out to ensure a better chance of getting a seat, and if plans change they change/cancel at a fee - that fee is well worth it given that its a small negligible amount anyway.

That said, you plan your holiday around what frequent flyer seats you can get - not the other way round because availability of frequent flyer seats are very limited and dates can be sporadic.

Some would say savvy flyers make sure that QF is not the only FF program they belong to, so they don't need to bother with this idea of booking 12 months out!
