Book now to 15 December for travel now to 31 March 2017.

Must book through UL's thai website. I can't get any Euro destination to price out except for London - which starts in at AUD2137 return (sample date 1 March). That includes the luxury departure tax exUK (so a fairly good deal).

Sorry what's UL?

Great question. The abbreviation certainly isn't common knowledge, despite what the OP might think.

Google gives me this:

Asia | UL

But I doubt that is correct.

Not helpful when no other details were provided. Could be an airline, a travel agent or a discount site for example. Without any context from the OP it is impossible to tell.

Edit: Who knew it was Sri Lankan airlines??????

Many industries use abbreviations to save time as they use those same sayings repeatedly. Eg medicine, the military (they are really good at it), aviation etc etc.

In case you hadn't twigged, everyone on here tries to use abbreviations to show how 'plane' smart they are. It's a thing.....

I've no problems with that, except when they are obscure and even google isn't sure what they are for certain.

Some context from the OP would have been appreciated.

It either had to be an OTA or an airline. Goolging the latter - 'UL airline' - returns Sri Lankan as the first result. Obviously not clear to some, but I would have thought a widely discussed discount airline on AFF, and a full member of OneWorld, would have been known.

(bsb has 'UL' listed in their FF prgram list in post #5)

Rather than worrying about the code - I'd suggest you may wish to google and find out about some of the internal problems Sri Lankan airlines are having at the moment. On a recent flight into Colombo on UL I read the local paper to discover that there were cases where a pilot had refused to be breath tested - and part of this was put down to internal management issues. Thye have recently amalgamated Airlanka their LCC arm back into to Sri Lanka. Not a good sign. I also notice that there is a real drop in their service standards on their internal Asian flights. Having flown UL a number of times on both European and Asian routes - hopefully the restructuring of the airline works out and improves its standards.

The issue is whether the pilots in question were ever approached to conduct a test. The pilots claim they were never asked. Security personnel claim the pilots refused. Pilots are asking for proper procedures to be followed to prevent this occurring again - that is, they want ICAO procedures to be followed.

Thanks for clarifying that. But it still does not give a traveler much confidence in the management of an airline when such events are occurring.

Agree. But one hopes management playing politics is separated from the competence of the engineers and pilots to deliver a safe flight. I don't know if there is any evidence against the latter. While I don't necessarily agree with everything put out by airlineratings .com they have given UL the full 7 stars for safety: SriLankan Airlines Review & Safety Ratings | AirlineRatings.com

Well.. its not an abbreviation...its an airline code... I would have thought its use was unremarkable here.....

Anyway... the fare of AUD2137 can combined with a TG (Thai) economy to bangkok return (AUD812) giving a mixed class to Europe for just under $3000. Reasonable value compared to QF PEY.

Everytime UL has one of these promotions I can't get the discounted airfares I expect.

Thai website, BKK-HKG, one-way economy in February 2017 prices at ~THB5,500 which from memory is the normal expensive one-way airfare.
