Some photos from my SFO SYD flight yesterday. As you can see, access from aisle to seat is quite narrow. Breakfast is the meal shown. I had the beef rib for dinner and it was delicious. Way better than any beef I've ever eaten on QF.

Two features of the UA app that I really liked were:

- it tells you exactly where your bag is, with a time stamp from bag drop, to tarmac, to being loaded on the plane and in reverse on landing;

- it tells you where your aircraft is coming from, so it's easy to see if you're likely to have a delay or not. My SYD SFO aircraft had done CDG - EWR - SFO earlier that day, all on time.

Thanks for the update. I didn't mind the polaris product just the food isn't great. How were the staff?

The staff were fine. Not brilliant, not terrible. I got everything I asked for within a reasonable time (not that I was very demanding) so I was happy.

I liked the food! Would much rather eat that food than anything branded with NP's name.

Just returned from a flight where we did SYD->LAX on Polaris. Hard product was pretty good. Seat was ok but not great - my wife (5' 2") couldn't get her leg support part of the seat to be comfortable. Flat bed was tight at the toe end for me (6'). Service... well let's just say it wasn't the best. I think the staff are past their best years and are looking for an easy flight. When we asked for a sandwich during the flight we were told to go check out the basket. There was none left. How hard is it to have enough sandwiches on board? We also did Lufthansa and Singapore J flights and they were quite a bit better. LH overnight Munich->Singapore and SQ Singapore->Sydney. Lufthansa is probably my pick of the bunch

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Agree! US carriers do good cafeteria-style comfort food! Finish with a nice ice-cream sundae made-to-order.

Did you ask for a gel pillow? Did you get slippers? What about pyjamas? There's a ton of stuff UA offers for Polaris customers onboard TPACs but you gotta ask!

Weird. On my flights they kept replenishing the baskets with different stuff. At one stage they even put out the cheese plates that were left over from the dinner service (LAX SYD).

also on my flight they gave me one set of biscuits for the cheese plate. When I asked for extra, they said they will have to check, and after at least 10 mins came back with a "no"...

This is my issue with UA... if you haven't flown with them before how do you know what to ask for? I happened to see someone getting the PJs so I asked for a set. Slippers were on my seat when I arrived. But gel pillows? Never heard of them...

On both my UA flights, my seat had 2 pillows on it - a bigger, fluffier one in a white cover and a smaller gel one in a blue cover.

Plus I can understand all the ingredients on that menu. Unlike the NP inspired ones where they try to make a sows ear sound like a silk purse by naming obscure ingredients😮

The amenities aren’t completely secret squirrel. They’re written on the menu in the bottom right hand corner.

Doesn’t help for the flights where they don’t hand out a menu though. I didn’t get a printed menu on MEL SFO, only on SFO SYD.

FWIW, just took the business class from SYD to SFO.

Agree with most of the earlier comments. The service is average (they just got attendants that really should have retired decades ago), the food is okay - I mean, I think Qantas business worse IMO. The lie flat beds are decent and the gel pillows help.

They give you free PJs and a general amenities kit.

Some may be surprised that B767s are still flying, let alone with the latest config. Pretty smart you’d think. Fully written off - probably cash cows with premium heavy seating now,

The 2x2x2 PE cabin actually looks pretty good.

the -400s joined the fleet in 2011… so not *that* old in aircraft terms… given some of them might have been parked for a few years due to covid?

see below!

I believe Continental took delivery of them from ~2000 so probably a tad older. But sounds like they’ve had a top to tail refresh.

The HNL sectors could be useful for peeps with points looking to get from Oz to the US on points - assuming you can get seats via VA, UA or other *A miles.

Oh yes! Good point. I had forgotten UA absorbed CO!
