TV series discussion {'ware Spoiler Alert}

Yes, watched when it first came out. Makes me glad I stuck to the traditional route - LON - bus tour through Europe - LON -ATH - home.
Up to 7 episodes in on Halt & Catch Fire, not sure I am going to make all 40 episodes.
Son travelled as a backpacker through Thailand in his late teens. Shudder. We went on a trip to Koh Tau. I think I did a trip report on it. It's now known as Murder Island. Found it Where the heck is Ko Tau?

I think we will be dead before a blockbuster series on Ironsides can be made.

We watched The Serpent on Netflix this week. It's a biopic on Charles Shobraj who murdered many young travellers on the hippie trail in SE Asia in the 70s. Series was very well done. Shobraj was/is very creepy. Did anyone else watch it?
Didn't watch it, but I remember when it all came out. The newspaper reports were creepy enough, without reliving it!

Haven’t seen it, but as a regular visitor to the sub continent and south east asia, in the late seventies, and early eighties, I’ll have to watch it.
I knew the story, I’m sure there was a warning about him and similar scams in the lonely planet guides, he was talked about a lot in backpacker hubs.
I think @TheRealTMA went overland closer to the mid seventies, earlier than me, he may remember hearing about him during that time as well.

Talking about films relevant to my time there, I started reading The Beach, which imho was a crock, couldn't watch the film and didn’t finish the book, anyway as usual, ymmv.

The Serpent is very good and quite scary! A number of us who did the Hippie Trail (Bali - Europe) in the early '70's sometimes wonder how we ever survived! I did the trip solo in '73 and survived, despite the rats in Kathmandu. A number of us were discussing this issue a few months ago when the Serpent was shown, and among some 10 or so friends who did the trip, none of us had any serious issues. The world (large parts of it) seemed a calmer and more friendly place in those days, or maybe the drugs dulled the senses :) The AUS (Australian Union of Students) had a great book for the journey and there was also Europe on $5 a day back then.

During overland travel in Indonesia (only a few years after the PKI massacres in Bali and other parts of indonesia), the AUD book said sit in the dining car on the train from Yogyakarta. Didn't mention the train guards (of our age. in levis and levi jackets, but with sub-machine guns). Hitching through Malaysia was also very popular.

Getting thrown off the side a motorway by a very fat German cop for hitchhiking was one of the less memorable moments.

I’ve read several reviews of the new Marvel Loki series. Some ok some not.

Watched three episodes.

Sorry, it’s self-indulgent rubbish. Don’t bother. You’ll never get the time back.

A bit like I feel about Clarice. Started out ok with some promise but has descended into drivel.

Love him or hate him, we are enjoying Clarkson’s farming programme, Kaleb, one of his helpers is a gem, he plays his part very well, although I don’t think he is ‘acting’!

Was anyone disappointed with the end of Jack Irish - Peter Temple would be rolling in his grave with that ending.

It was always going to be difficult to tie everything in and complete it tidily, yes somethings were disappointing, but overall I can live with it! At least this way there doesn't appear to be any loose ends.

I felt the same way about Rake, very messy in the end as well, imo.

Thought it was fabulous.
