I am traveling to LAS from SYD early June with a couple of my bosses, both are Plat (I am Gold). Their airfares were booked by client and unfortunately, were red e-deal tickets and thus not upgradable by points.

Just curious if anyone managed to get Qantas to turn these into "upgradable" fares in the past? I know it's outside the fare rule but given their Plat status, it worth giving them a call? We also have a couple Chairman Lounge members in the company who I can ask to call Qantas if that increase their chances?

Thanks

TT

Generally not possible unless you cancel and pay change fee for new upgradeable class.

OR... as Qantas has ocassionally done in the past, run a special making all fares upgradeable.

I haven't ever seen this rule waived, even for CL.

QF should let you 'upgrade' your fare class, but you'll be subject to whatever fees are associated to make the changes.

Best check the fare rules for the class you're booked into (use EF or similar if you're not sure).

Even if the pax paid out of their own pocket for the adcoll to upgrade to a higher (eligible to upgrade on points) fare, there's still not guarantee the points upgrade would come through anyway.

If the travel is in the next couple of months it's a particularly busy month for travel to/from the US so chances of points upgrades being confirmed can be less favourable than usual.

I would double check their freq flyer numbers are in the pnr in order to secure the best possible whY seating according to their tier status. Just because they gave the ff numbers to the client doesn't mean the ff no's will have been passed on to the agent.

If on the A380 they might be able to snag a whY seat upstairs.

Cross your fingers and hope QF will release another special allowing Discount Y to be upgradeable. This is what I'm optimistically daydreaming for :p
There is also and infinitesimally small chance that you may receive an OP-UP but then again the chances of being struck by lightning are far greater.

I wish you good luck!

Beware that if your client also paid for the tickets they will get the refund back to their cc.

Yes, the not upgrading red-e-deals is there for a reason.

It's a re-grade not a refund in this case. The adcoll will just be charged to the purchasers card, nothing goes back to the original charged card so the client would not know any different.
