Re: Tiger - 10,000 $10 seats from 1-Jul

wadebosse,
I think you will find that TT has changed a fair bit since their grounding last year. Granted there were a bit smaller than before, however, you have got to give them with being the most punctual domestic airline over the last few month (and also the least cancellation IIRC). With up to 11 flights a day between MEL and SYD, the chances of passengers being left stranded has reduced significantly.

On a related note, when I called the JQ price guarantee hotline this morning, the operator asked me (without promt) if I was looking at Tiger Airways when I mentioned to her I want fly from MEL to SYD ;) They must have had a busy day today.

Agreed. TT have said publicly that they lost a lot of customers because of the grounding last year and while they have been quietly rebuilding their network away from the public spotlight (as nothing has really gone wrong) they need a big sale to entice people to try them again and show them how much they have improved. Theyve already said they wont make any money off these fares - they simply want to get new customers.

I doubt I will ever fly with TT again (badly burnt last time) but welcome them back to the skies - the more competition and capacity on the routes I fly, the better.

Re: Tiger - 10,000 $10 seats from 1-Jul

Have only flow TT recently, never before the grounding. Both flights departed on time, arrived on time and customer service was of a similar standard to JetStar. Only down side was delayed availability of luggage - but for the price it was a fair trade off.

I'm afraid they are not the airline for me, but for some it is the best airline because of their cheap offerings. Good luck to those people.

I don’t understand why Tiger persist with these publicity stunts and silly fares? We all know they can do cheap flights, we really do! That’s the only reason thrill seekers who love to play Russian roulette with their travel plans, risk flying with them. What we don’t all know (and would like to see) is their willingness to build a reliable airline (with a pinch of credibility). Instead, they are leading the race to the bottom by offering $10 seat fares in a pathetic effort to try and remain relevant? People may actually start using them more frequently if they demonstrated that they are capable of consistently delivering some reliable service. $10 fares are great (bring on the competition) but if you are left stranded, or massively delayed, it often cancels out the benefit of the cheap deal and wastes a lot of your time.

They currently have the best OTP of the domestic airlines, and have done for several months now.

Re: Tiger - 10,000 $10 seats from 1-Jul

Working for TT (I work for a contractor), they have come a looooong way from what they were 12 months ago, agreed we had a fair cr@p OTP and reliability, however since August of last year we have worked our cough off to give the people what they want.

One of the major ethos's from Andrew David is no CANX. With very few over the last months we must be doing something right. Okay, every airline will have bad days and this definitely includes TT - Diversions and what not, nearly 80-90% of delays have been caused due to extenuating factors outside the GHA and OPS powers. They will now make all efforts to get affected travelers to where they want to go at the earliest possible opportunity.

I know I come out as a TT sympathizer but merely give them a chance, instead of sitting in your comfort zone and your lounges ;)

nice post. They have definitely improved. Unlike many of the QF and DJ only flyers here I fly a whole range of airlines from LCC economy to Full service first class. I don't dislike Tiger but I do prefer JQ simply because of the terminal facilities in Melbourne and the bonus of QF lounge access on JQ. I have flown with Tiger several times before and found them fine. They definitely have improved in leaps in bounds this year. Good on them.

Re: Tiger - 10,000 $10 seats from 1-Jul

The JQ booming agent thought I was mental but on Aug 29th I am flying MEL-SYD on one of the international terminal departure flights and then returning SYD-MEL on the 30th the same way. How to hopefully be guested in to the F Lounge! Shame it doesn't earn SC but it is my last two days of my QF year and I'm too far to run for it. I am sure I can eat and drink more than $18 worth in the J or F lounge though!

Re: Tiger - 10,000 $10 seats from 1-Jul

I had to laugh a bit when I booked some of mine. I did it during the day and got put through to the Australian Jetstar Holidays call centre (as the price beat line gets sent to). I booked one and thought I'd just do several calls to book them all. Turns out only one person works in the Australian call centre because I kept getting him. Wasn't a very pleasant guy either!

Oddly enough, I called back again in the evening (had to book another one as I accidentally booked on a day I had something on *damn*), waited on hold for 45 mins and he refused to book me on JQ35  said TT was "full" at 15:35 (even though it clearly had heaps of $10 seats avail) and said all he'd do was the 13:55ish domestic flight. Called back at midnight, call went to the Philippines, was answered immediately and a really helpful lady sorted the whole thing for me without question. What do they say about foreign call centres.... I won't be calling the JQ Aus one again!

i found the guy I dealt with a few times lately on the Australian line very efficient. But I am still waiting 2 days now since booking for itinerary to be emailed. Last time they came in within 12 hours.

Re: Tiger - 10,000 $10 seats from 1-Jul

I am genuinely pleased that they have turned things around. Customers may forgive and forget in time and I am sure that if TT continue to keep it together, that more and more seats will be filled - even when the fares are more than $10. Thanks for the post.

Re: Tiger - 10,000 $10 seats from 1-Jul

Remember that the OTP may not be entirely accurate, though I do concede they may have improved. Since they have a cap on sectors per day, they have a few spare and hot-swappable aircraft around.

I've only flown them before the grounding - two flights were okay but the staff horrid, the third and final cancelled on me in BNE on a Sunday evening. Not the best time to be looking for some last-minute flight bookings. Ended up on Virgin for c. $190.

I don't think I'll be flying them again, but they're good to have around for the Jetstar price beat, and to keep the competition honest.

Good to know you've kept up with the times mate, the cap has been lifted, one aircraft based out of SYD, one that is US ATM due to an engine change. So there is ONE spare...

Re: Tiger - 10,000 $10 seats from 1-Jul

They flew an aircraft to the US for an engine change?

The cap is being progressively lifted and as I recall they're still quite restricted until October this year when the sectors/day lifts to 64. Please forgive me, but I'd like a source if you still claim the cap has been lifted already.

Edit: I just found a source that beginning June/July they can operate basically to capacity. I'd be most interested to know if their most recent OTP has dropped compared to earlier this year. :)
