Those in the photos didn't win .
My thoughts are that the 3 grillings by the press served no purpose and I didn't watch them. I think everyone knew what was going to happen beforehand. To me the grillings were bullying at its worst and I don't think it was an acceptable way to move forward-I know people will disagree & that is fine by me.

Sorry I should have said emotion of winning or losing.

Agree with you about the interview

George Orwell - more should re-read his writings

At least all NSW HSC Students will be reading 1984 as part of the common English texts in 2019

Not much else of the classics I’m afraid
Guevara and Malala part of the extension reading list.

Letter to the editor Daily Telegraph London

"SIR- In Shooting an Elephant, George Orwell writes: "Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness and disregard of all the rules."

Warner was asked
"So when did you stop beating your wife?"

It's unAustralian to "dob-in" a mate...even Thommo said that
But it's also unAustralian to lie in the Court of public opinion, when in the midst of public Humiliation.

So how would you reply to the question?

Keep lying - no. There was no one else responsible (when there was)
Dob in a mate - yes, there were others involved who haven't been Brought to account.

God, the wealthy man can't win either way

Ah! The Barnaby Defence!

MrP and I disagreed about McGrath. I didn’t like the way he looked almost angry when he took a wicket. Wrong message. MrP who knew him personally said he was a lovely man. White line fever perhaps.

I am sure we have all known people who change almost beyond recognition in certain settings (eg when getting behind a wheel). I agree that McGrath was/is always charming, never aloof, always able to relate to those he meets an put them at their ease. Give him a cricket ball and a pitch, and its another story.

They can start by sacking Sutherland who has been completely inept throughout this whole scenario.

If they're going to do a 'culture' investigation, it all starts from the top James - so as your coach has already resigned you should jog on as well - but you won't because you do actually think you're more important then the game you govern.

Cricket Australia chairman Peever ducks for cover

And this from yesterday;
South Africa v Australia: fourth Test, day one – as it happened
“I think that you have a point, Rob, that the problem goes beyond cricket,” says Bill Hargreaves. I had to do some reading behind the psychological bases of populism and catastrophism (essentially grievance or trauma led behaviours). I think that the neoliberal West is at the behest of a few influences: a toxic, self-serving media; a competitive, consumption led culture based on narcissism (the self or those we see as a continuation of the self being the driving forces of our lives); a continuing polarisation of wealth and influence; and an education system that doesn’t effectively disrupt these influences nor focus on developing emotional intelligence whereupon they might be questioned.

“I guess that Don Mihsill, over 57, has a point with his Roman Amphitheatre reference, in that the circus provides a valuable distraction from grievance. My fourpenneth is that wholesale socio-political economic redirection is needed, probably moving closer to the Nordic countries’ models, but for that to occur we need a wholesale banana skin to recognise our mistakes. And of course there are many in positions of influence, funding political parties, for example, that would stand to lose a lot by a shift away from the status quo.”

The 'Monaghan curve' of public outrage hits Steve Smith

After reviewing all the press conferences, I cannot escape the conclusion that this was just a whitewash.

They were caught, quick investigation on the run, quick justice on the run, now let’s get back to business.

The big question “why did It happen” still has not been answered. Does CA really believe this was a one off whether in Australian or Worldwide? and does crucifying the 3 fix the problem? If Yes then the CA hierarchy has no insight. And when there is no insight there is window dressing and no substantive change.

A lot of sports have turned into a Roman Amphitheatre - where winning is paramount. If not a winner then a loser. And the loser is invariably fed to the lions by the media. And sports demanding an ever increasing $$$ from media coverage just fuels the whole cycle. So it’s good to see some rebalancing with sports sponsorship $$$

A bit of karma:

30.6

Maharaj to SE Marsh, 1 bye, QDK misses a stumping! Marsh ran down the pitch to drive, but the ball went straight on to beat him and hit de Kock on on his left pad as he tried to rise with the bounce. Chance nevertheless. Replays show just as the opportunity came, de Kock was stung by a bee That could've put him off

So did the bee come out of Marsh's pocket?o_O

I see the Board has sent Tubby out to defend Sutherland. Warner has been criticized for showing self interest - I think that disease is spreading.

I'm not the biggest fan of Ian Chappell, but he was spot on about James Sutherland & Pat Howard losing their roles, the rot has continued wit them at the helm and they are ultimately responsible.

Tubby was typical in towing the CA line.

I've tried to stay distanced a bit from the whole drama. But I am actually moderately upset about the whole thing. 1/ because I thought our boys were better than that (possibly very naive I guess) but 2/ the absolute overblown trial by media that has followed. Disgusting.

Look at any other top level sport - it is all about pushing boundries, until you get pulled back, then you start niggling from another angle.

Look at Faf.

Yes they made a mistake. Yes, it's not Warners first (or second, or tenth). But there's no reason to ruin 3 careers.

More heads could roll at Cricket Australia as cheating scandal grinds on

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd, now president of the Asia Society Policy Institute, told ABC News from Hong Kong that the scandal was harming Australia's international reputation outside cricket circles.

"People have approached me in the last week in China and in the United States — not known to be big centres of international cricket — but have seen the massive global media coverage of this and have come out with one thing, 'we never thought you Australians cheated at things like this'," Mr Rudd said.

"I think the recent chairmanship of Cricket Australia, under David Peever, opens up a whole series of questions, I mean Peever brought to Australian cricket what I describe as all the delicacy and sophisticated stagecraft of Rio Tinto — I say that with complete irony.

"In fact I think he imported into Cricket Australia some of the highest-level corporate thuggery we've seen on the part of some of our Australian senior mining industry officials over a long period of time.

But when you're dealing with something as precious as an Australian institution, and whether we like it or not Australian cricket is an institution … it requires a level of delicacy I've never seen on the part of David Peever in handling anything," he said.
