After a discussion in the Totally off-topic thread there was a suggestion for a recipe thread. So here goes

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....y-off-topic-thread-6220-1551.html#post1621927

Brussel Sprouts au gratin

500g brussel sprouts
1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
60g butter
3tbsp butter, melted
2 rashers chopped raw bacon
¼ cup pine nuts
¼ cup parmesan cheese

Partially steam sprouts (can be done in the microwave) then add 60g butter and stir through until melted

Put sprouts into an oven proof dish.

Mix bacon, melted butter, pine nuts, parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs

Put topping on sprouts.

Bake in a moderate oven for 15-20 minutes until brown.

That's rather similar to my brothers version (which is the first time I've really liked Brussel sprouts), although he has pickled red onion in his.

Subscribing to the thread and hopefully I'll be able to contribute.

Im embracing the use of a Slow Cooker this winter and last nights effort was Mongolian Beef and it was fantanstic/no left overs.

When I make this again, I would make the carrots chunkier and add brocolli about 40mins before finish (I added them at the beginning). I also put this on slow cook for 6hrs (recipe said 4hrs). I also thought there was a lot of sauce made so I drained it a bit when scooping it into bowls, but thats a personal thing.

So this is a recipe thread not a food thread - recipe please :)

Don't worry, I'm aware that this is a recipe threat. Just waiting to dish up before sharing. Missing creamy mash with lots of butter... :(

I use her recipe a lot; Donna Hay. Tweak this to suit the household dietary requirement. No alcohol, tomato, onion and garlic but lots of fresh herbs, roasted capsicum sauce and homemade stock.

I'm subscribing to this thread, should be great. I will try & find my grans old recipes for trip, brains & bacon, lambs fry, chicken giblets & other things offal if anyone interested.

I like this thread!

This boozy mac n cheese recipe (cider, diced apples, vintage cheddar) is one of my favourites and is always extremely popular with my guests. Autumn/winter comfort food at its finest! For best effect, make sure to use a dry cider and a sharp vintage cheddar - the fuller the flavours the better. And Granny Smith apples work best.
