Hi All,

Not sure where to post this so hopefully this is the right place.

I am travelling to ZQN with my wife and 22 month old daughter late this year.

Will book a King Bed at a Hilton I think. Am HH gold.

How do you guys/girls normally put your under 2's too sleep? Sleeping with us is not really an option as once I move an inch she wakes up :)

Do the hotels provide anything like a rollaway single bed or something suitable for a 22 month old?

Cheers,
K.

They can provide a travel cot but we ended up with babygr in bed with us - he slept well - us not so much...

Ok thanks. Will probably try the travel cot. We are going to be there for 7 nights so can't afford to have lack of sleep for the whole trip!

Nice idea ;) Mind you we were with a 9 month old. I would suggest a call to the hotel - they might move rooms around - depending on status etc.

ok thanks :) will call. when you say move rooms around, what benefit will that get me ?:)

They might bump you to a more appropriate room given you are gold. For instance moving you to a twin room for a start.

I know all too well of this.

Will the hotel provide a porta cot or can you take one. You can get some fantastic pop up ones, its worth a google. The roll away is another good option, depends on how 'good' a sleeper she is (I lucked out there with all mine) and if she is going to wander during the night, so containment might be a consideration.

If you do use a hotel portacot and they should have them, I would take a padded portacot travel sheet, I have found some places have stained matterses and this has some added padding.

Is the room big enough to put the cot somewhere out of the way, I have used walk in robes (yep I put my kids in cupboards) or large bathrooms. Its no fun sitting on the floor in the bathroom sharing a bottle of wine with the other half while trying to be really quiet or going to bed at 7pm!

The hotel may even kiddie proof the room for you.

Through my 7 weeks away last year in Hiltons & IHG properties, the cot was ordered for every stay and for a 22 month old, should be appropriate.

I love the photo. We get 1 or both on our bed on a regular ocassion so relate to it. Skiing and lack of sleep don't mix!

Thanks all for the info. I woudl prefer not to carry around a portacot. So would probably use one in the hotel. May bring my own sheets though. Do you need to let the hotel know well in advance to reserve a portacot?

At 22 months old we where getting our kids a normal bed to sleep in. Most places will offer fold-a-way beds as well. Whilst it might be a bit too late to change any bookings around, apartment style rooms where there is either a separate bed room off the living area or two bedrooms off the living area are a godsend, unless you feel like going to bed at the same time as your daughter.

We took a Kinderkot with us when travelling in Europe with Little Miss 18mths. We still requested a port-a-cot, but it was useful in a few locations where one was not provided.

I'd had the experience in Melbourne when she was 7mths old to get a port-a-cot with no mattress - that may seem better than a stained/yucky mattress, but it was rather cough (no, I didn't complain to the hotel at the time, I think I asked for a mattress and was told there wasn't one). A friend has also travelled with the Kinderkot, and it can be nice for the older kids to also have their own space within a hotel room.

we've just come back from staying at the Hilton Queenstown and the King bed is massive so my 12 month old had no problems in the middle. To be honest i felt a bit isolated at one end of that bed!

lol good to know. Did you have status and did you get upgraded ?:) Feedback on hotel please? And getting to the city and back? :)

no upgrade at the hotel unfortunately but the place was great. We did go J on the flight there and that was reasonable. about 10km drive into Queenstown and 30 mins to the slopes of Remarkables (including driving up the goat track). My first time in Queenstown but i will definitely go back and stay at the Hilton village.

Hi Deen,

Thanks. Do you have Hilton Gold or Diamond status?

Also I noticed you mention the village , I think there are 2 hiltons at Queenstown next to each other. I'm not staying at the village. The other one..

no only joined HHonors after my stay. Sorry i stayed at the other one (cheaper!) managed by Hilton so i can only guess the actual Hilton will be even better. They are both in the Kawarau Village which has lots of other shops and restaurants. We ate at the restaurant inside the Hilton and the food was always top notch.
