Travel luggage sizes

Just mulling over my luggage options for the upcoming trip to the US/UK/Cyprus. I have a suspicion that we will be doing a fair amount of clothes shopping in NY (I have a feeling the luggage will be mostly empty on the way there) so am considerig getting some luggage in NY.

Given my Tumi obsession I trawled through teh Tumi site yesterday and found this piece:

I am just trying to work out how the size compares to other luggage - I am thinking that this is definitely checked luggage but am struggling to find checked luggage sizes on line. Any thoughts?
