Does anyone know whether I'll need TI for Fiji if I'm only in the country for 9 hours? Booked a b2b on FJ and was wondering whether check-in will ask for TI?

If TI is a requirement to enter Fiji then ‘yes’ I think you’d need it.

With an immediate return back home flight you are not usually considered ‘in transit’, even if you don’t leave the transit area. That definition is usually applied to onward flights to a third country.

You don't.

It's all on the Fiji government website: https://www.mcttt.gov.fj/fiji-entry-conditions/

2. Travel Insurance:
...
must have medical travel insurance
...
except

...

6. Travellers transiting Fiji for less than 72 hours.

But read the full details of that exemption to see if you can meet it.

I checked the TIMATIC links on both United and Emirates, plus the covid travel page on Qantas. All require travel insurance. Although granted all of them appeared as summaries of timatic rather than the usual full version.

I see the 72 hour exemption requires a letter confirming you will take responsibility for all covid costs… I don’t know whether an airline will accept that. Maybe a call to the operating carrier?

Anyway… an early arrival at the airport would allow time to get the insurance, if required by the airline.

Unfortunately it's flight credits with FJ and it's been 2 plus years since the purchase so I'm not exactly sure which card I've purchased it with! Perhaps it's been cancelled.

I'll write a letter just in case but if they refuse to accept it and demand that I get TI, I guess I'll just purchase it on the spot.

I bought a policy from the company that the Fiji Government refers to on their website: FijiCare.

It was pretty cheap (USD 39.99) and done instantly online.

Let us know how you go!

No problems at check-in re TI as it was <24h but it's a nightmare re BPs. Sydney didn't want to give me my return BP. They printed them and said we can't give it to you because Nadi needs to do its checks. Now I'm stuck landside without a lounge! First world problems!

You wanted to stay air-side in NAN?

Maybe when you get to NAN, FJ will be able to issue the BP air-side?

Else with 9 hours between flights, you'd have time to go somewhere near the airport.

Unfortunately FJ said no airside so they told me to go through immigration. Here I am having accepted that burger king is my home for the next 2 hours until check in opens.

You could take a 5 minute walk, literally just across the road, to the Fiji Gateway Hotel. I've stayed there once some years ago. It gets quite a good report these days from others.
