Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone had any tips for a family policy for an extended overseas holiday?

My AMEX (ACE) annual policy only covers for 45 days and I need to find something that will cover well beyond that.

Will be traveling to USA, Caribbean and Europe, stopping at Singapore on the way home.

Appreciate any pointers.

Cheers

I will also be interested in the responses as my daughter and her partner are looking for travel insurance for a 10 month holiday in 2016.

Doubt you would find many annual policies that would cover a single trip of 6 months duration.

Yeah my current annual policy is 45 days and some of the others I've seen are 30 days max.

Is another option to buy single trip policies every 30 days with different providers?

This also made me check our annual policy which is 38 days. TID.

My son bought a 6 month policy recently and it was very reasonable. I'll see if I can find out what it was - he's currently overseas - for 6 months! :p

Just found it as he had vibered the details.

ANZ CC Plat or above will provide upto 6months. You only need to spend $250 on travel costs, plus have return tickets (either paid or award ) flights to activate the insurance.

Covers spouse and dependent children under 21.

Unfortunately I need cover for the first few months of a 21 month trip overseas. We're travelling through the US for 3 months before I start work in Canada, when provincial health service kicks in. So no return date back to Australia yet.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for an insurer who will provide a policy with no return date to Australia?

I recently did a little research for a friend going overseas for more than 12 months. He is backpacking it, and I'm not sure what the differences are in relation to the products offered for backpackers versus "regular" travel insurance, but it may be worth a look (family option appears to be available too). A lot can be extended once the initial insured period is reached. ie. https://www.itrektravelinsurance.com.au/backpacker/#

Just a suggestion FWIW.

Have you tried any of those search engines? might be a good start point
As said annual cover doesnt actually cover long periods of time they are set up for multi trips (longest ive seen is 3 months most are 30-45 days).
My friend is doing the same thing (moving to canada for work) but she seemed to think those benifits of working take a few months to kick in. So maybe look into that. she plans to do a bit of travel first (flying though USA ect) so maybe just check how long before your covered. I kind of think it was 3 or 6 months that she mentioned. That being said she also doesnt have a job to go to. But she was looking at a years coverage and wanted to include skiing ect so was coming in at around $800+

There are 100's of options out there all with different limits and conditions, use one of the multiple search engines find one that covers them for what they want to do and limits they are happy with and pick a price your happy with from a decent company. Also note covermore (the one flight centre sells) will often price match comparable quotes.

There maybe hundreds but I'm after recommendations that AFF have used successfully please
