We've claimed through TID. I purchased the policy for my son and his mate. His friend had a dreadful motorcycle accident. Ripped the back of his leg. Needed urgent surgery in Chiang Mai then ambulance down to Bangkok, more surgery then flown J class to Sydney where he had more surgery.

TID were amazing. They organised a translator for the lad's sister to speak with the surgeons in Chiang Mai (remote rural). They provided accommodation in BKK for son and his other mate who wasn't even on the policy then flew both of those home on the same flight as the injured mate. Brilliant.

Wow great to hear that, i'll stick to TID then. Just got off the medibank travel insurance website and they were almost double the price !

They could wish but no, Y. They were good with that. They just wanted to get home after 2 weeks of stress.

And with regard to motorcycle riding, they will only cover you in the event of an accident if your licensed to ride a motorbike in Australia. So remind your sons that even if they can hire that 600cc super bike in Thailand, unless they're licensed to ride one at home, the insurance company won't pay for you to be put back together.

Which is completely fair. More young Aussies should get, and learn to read, travel insurance policies.

I had a simple claim with TID, did it all through the app and it was approved quickly and easily, no hassles.

I have insured with Allianz Global Assist (through Velocity FF for the points) for the past few trips and thankfully never had to make a claim.

However today I was reading some reviews about them, and of about 20 reviews, only one was mildly positive. The story of the family who had to get DFAT and the Foreign Ministers office involved to get their deceased son home from South America was heart wrenching.

Even though I'll have lost my money to Allianz, I'm going to buy a new policy with TID to cover me, because I know I'll be looked after if something were to happen (knock wood I won't need to contact them though).
