Welcome to AFF.

Have a look at Defence Health. They quote for up to 85 years but have wording that implies that they will/may cover policies that fall outside their normal parameters.

Hi I am also looking for travel insurance where we are covered if something happens to relatives over 85 at home (my father in lawwho is in good health, but at that age, anything can happen).
I also need the insurance to cover me when I stay on in europe for a while longer while my partner returns home. Reading the fine print of all these insurance companies is driving me crazy!

I was doing this search last week as I am taking my 83 year old mother on the Queen Mary II in March next year. All the policies I sourced stopped at 85 years. Understandable really.

Need to look at the fine print but I do not believe cancellation cover for sick relatives does not have an age limit. The age limit only applies to travellers. Or have I got this one wrong?

How long are you planning to stay overseas? Are there any children involved?

The travel insurance company I use the family policy is double the single policy and covers each trip of around 35-38 days duration. If you are both going to stay less than that duration then it makes sense to get 2 separate policies.

I know the fine print is hard to read but need to look around and see what is best for you.

I've just been looking into something similay. I'm going away soon with family, and our grandmother is 86, and we want some form of Insurance in the event that she falls ill. DefenceHealth as indicated above doesn't have any wording in their policies on age restrictions. HOWEVER, it should be noted that cover is not provided if there are pre-existing conditions on relatives..

My Westpac Earth credit card insurance has no age limit on the non traveling relatives. As mentioned above I think this applies to most most policies but of cousre it is subject to there being no pre existing conditon.

We have friends who sadly had to return to Australia and claim with ANZ credit card insurance. They were covered and very satisfied with the outcome.

Westpac also partly cover the pre existing condition in the event of death provided it had not been professionally advised as "terminal" before departure. They will provide a return economy ticket to Australia, if you then resume your journey wihin 30 days. I suspect other policies may have similar provisions.
