Hi Guys,

Heading overseas in a few weeks and im taking a recently purchased engagement ring valued at $55,000. It appears that no travel insurance that i can find, covers an item of that value and my NRMA portable items cover only covers $10,000 when not in Aus or NZ.

Has anyone had this issue before and is there a company that will cover me?

Thanks in advance.

Or perhaps go back to the jeweller that you bought it from. Presumably if they are a retailer of $55,000 rings then they will know where to insure them! They might even be a broker as is the case in some jewellers!

I cant leave at home as I'm proposing overseas (she will probably say yes without the ring but not as impressive). In addition i want my $5,000 GST back:D

Not really going to be worth it - its not going to depreciate that much whilst you are away. You will just get the refund, and then have to pay most of it back when you return. Don't even think of not declaring something worth that much - if they find you not declaring it, you could end up having it confiscated.

Maybe a return to the jeweller and get an imitation with a replica stone that you can take. You can explain the reason, and the fact that the real one is safe at home after the event - and she may be more comfortable not wearing that sort of money around overseas in the first instance.
