Travel insurance and denial entry

Does anyone here have and 1st or 2nd hand knowledge in relation to this? If you fly to a country and are denied entry and returned home. Once your "issue" is resolved, will insurance stump up the cash for a new ticket?

I have genuine concerns :-(

At the most basic it depends on the TI policy you are using.

Many don't cover such an event.

You really need to check & understand the PDS.

Agree with serfty. No personal (or 2nd hand) experience, but the PDS's I've read specifically exclude refusal of entry to a country.

Not sure what happens if you are detained for search/questioning on arrival and then subsequently allowed entry but miss your flight....

I've never seen a policy that provides cover for such an event.

Every TI policy states you must take all reasonable steps to minimise loss and I suspect this may come under the clause of your failing to minimise loss by not doing everything possible to prevent it.

I believe that goes under "bad luck". If you are on an LCC, you're almost guaranteed to need to buy a new subsequent ticket out of your own pocket. If you are flying a legacy airline, and you get a half decent check in person (assuming not all already under one PNR) you may be able to move to a later flight for no charge.

Just looking at covermores PDS, General Exclusion 5 is

loss or damage caused by detention, confiscation or destruction
by customs or other officials or authorities.

So if you get held up by customs, and although allowed in you miss a flight, they will not cover it, the same as if you get kicked out of the country, they will not cover you.
