I have a client who is very wealthy and coming to Melbourne from KL for a meeting. He is only coming for 1 day - arrive at 6am and leave 11.45pm.
KL to Mel and Mel to KL

I think it’s a bit crazy to do this as there is a lot of technology ect now to eliminate this sort of travel. What are your thoughts?
(He is flying Air Asia J)

Some very wealthy people I know also choose to fly LCC airlines or Y in tier 1 airlines, their reason being ‘why would I pay 1 dollar more’ to get from point A to B if it cost me extra money. It is this mindset that makes them wealthy and myself poor.

If you’re running a company it also sets a precedent, and if you’ve got a few employees that can save a fair bit of moulah. If it’s not a night flight, that 8-ish hours in premium economy wouldn’t be much different to a real J; J food & drink is obviously better than Y but it’s still no better than $50 would get you in a reasonable cafe at Australian prices.

☺️ I will ask him in a nice way why he is flying LCC when I meet with him on Monday.

Two overnights in succession on an LCC with a days business in between
Yes seems crazy to me. I didn’t see his whole ticket and suggested we meet at his hotel… only later realizing there is no hotel.

That could be the case but he did just get back from a 2 week holiday in Europe 😊 and from what I understand it was not on the cheep side.

I once did SYD-JFK Friday morning arrive JFK Friday evening
Then JFK-SYD Sunday afternoon arrive Syd Tues morning.
I was once on the first BNE-MEL flight with a few hours to attend to some matters out of the airport then MEL-LAX on the same morning before flying back LAX-BNE the same evening and straight to work upon arrival...

AirAsia PE is a lie-flat J product

I'm just not keen on AAX

I Remember AA Tony who said his pilots are so well trained AA aircraft will not get lost (on the day MH370 went missing)

Then one did go missing from radar in the Java Sea

And another got lost because the pilots caused the aircraft to think it was somewhere in South Africa while in SYD, then when in the air they rebooted the navigation and caused the aircraft to have no idea where it was. Then storms hit SYD and they could not land with ILS (no nav) then had to be diverted to MEL with ATC telling them where to turn at every step.

But hats off to AA Tony- he changed the whole airline industry, and challenged the status quo.

I once flew SYD - HKG on QF stayed 2 hours then flew back. Both flights in J and it wasn’t a status run.

I have also flown on QF the 8am SYD - MEL, back on the 1pm and then back to MEL on the last flight (around 10pm I think). All in Y and all for solid business reasons.

'I have a client who is very wealthy'
'there is a lot of technology to eliminate this sort of travel'

Indeed there is - one such technology is private jets.

Air Asia premium flatbed is perfectly acceptable and MUCH better than a premium economy overnight flight. Also the meals on Air Asia are actually very tasty, just a bit too small in terms of serving size, just order an extra one.
