Hey all

Just looking at some flights to the US for next week, it's brought up some options which go CBR - SYD - LAX - SFO. The flights operated by QF011 however have the travel class of "New Ecconomy" whilst for every other flight, inc the long hauls (eg QF107) the class is simply called "Ecconomy"

Does anyone know what they mean, and what the difference is likely to be?

In each case it is a 744 which will be the operating a/c.

Might be the added option of an orange or apple?

Where exactly does it come up with 'new economy'?

From memory, "New Economy" used to mean Premium Economy. I am not sure if that is still the case.

Can you view the booking class? Where are you seeing this?

Remember that the software that displays the class is interpreting the booking class an mapping the booking class letter to a textual reference. If using tools that are not airline-specific (such as CheckMyTrip) their textual interpretation of the airline's booking class may not match.

Here...

QF11 \ QF107 and QF15 are all to be operated by a 747, however QF11 states the travel class is "New Ecconomy"

Never seen that before, when I've been in PE, it's stated 'Premium Economy'.

By the way, is there some in-joke I'm missing? You keep spelling 'economy' with two C's, despite what the image says, so I'm guessing it's not a typo or spelling error...

Yeah, that'll be Premium Economy. I've seen it before on PE bookings in the past (albeit not since 2009), but it might be some remnants of an old system left in the multi-city system.

The only cabins with availability on that flight are Business and Premium. It's currently scheduled to be operated by a 3 class (J, W, Y) 744 - either VH-OBJ or VH-OJI (the only two planes with that seating config).

Does it even let you book? (I tried replicating and got an error that it couldn't find a fare for the itinerary).

Premium economy does show up as 'New Economy' sometimes. A quick look at class availability indicates shows only J6 and W5 on the flight - I guess its the W5 that is bobbing up in the search results.

Call it both a typo and spelling error...
