Not sure if anyone else has it, but received an email from VA regarding the new Travel Bank system which keeps credit shells all together and which you can use as a form of payment when booking online or via the call centre, instead of having to manually call up with each PNR number.
Good system...shows all the amounts and the expiry dates.
Only thing is that any shells prior to the changeover haven't been merged into it yet, which VA said should be around a week.
Certainly makes life easier now instead of having to keep copies of so many different PNR's with varying amounts on them.
There is a login section for it using your velocity number and password, as well as a Travel Bank account number.

Do you do a lot of cancellations?

Sounds like a good idea though for those whose travel patterns change regularly.

quick question with travel bank, if i cancel a flight then it creates my travel account with the credit in it, it doesnt ask me til the payment method wether i want to use travel bank as payment, so after ive entered passenger details. So can i use another traveller to use my credit on? or will it revert back to my name once i log my travel bank account in to the reservation payment page?

so really im asking can i book a flight for someone else using my travel credits?

couldnt find anything on va site or google so thought id ask here before calling

interested to know the answer to this question as well...

I have $42 remaining in my travel bank account and went to book a $69 flight. So using the travel bank balance leaves $27 and if paying by credit card wants to charge the $7.70 surcharge. Why, oh why, Virgin can you not do the simple things right?

From my understanding the travel bank is issued in 2 ways

1) From flight cancellations where you have already paid the $7.70 surcharge and you are going to get slugged a cancellation fee anyway
2) From customer care

Neither of the situations above should trigger the $7.70 surcharge when there is a residual balance in the travel bank. Expecially customer care because if you get issued with a $50 compensation or good will you cannot avoid the $7.70 surcharge as most flights are $50+ which then defeats the purpose of the compensation.

Am I missing something?

Yes you can. You can book a ticket for anyone to fly on through the website, then use anyone's travel bank account to pay for it.

The reservation will then be sent to whoever you booked it for.

But if that was the case, people could just use $1 from their travel bank every time, and in doing so circumvent the fee.

Cannot use a partial amount from travel bank unless you are using the residual value.

It is only $7.70 but now I know how it works I will not be caught out next time.
