I know there are many on this site who enjoy constant overseas travel and good luck to them. We are about to embark on our next overseas trip after four years, the anticipation levels are rising with a total of six weeks away. We will be 4 weeks in the USA, and 2 weeks in Canada. If you travel constantly for work do you still enjoy the journey, or does it become ho hum?

Always enjoy the journey and love the planning. Which is what I'm doing now between reading AFF.

My next trip is to the US in OCT and then home via BKK (AA points) and am looking for some cheap SCs to maintain WP for next year.

This is my third overseas leisure trip this year and have already planned a trip for APR-MAY 2016 including having the leave approved and the cattery booked (not in that order though).

We are counting down the weeks, ok I'm down to days now (32) until we are off on this year's holiday. We're lucky enough that our 'big' holidays are yearly. Many on here are very blase about their endless J and F travel and are sadly very free with their open disdain of Y travel. For some of us, that's all we can afford and we don't have the luxury of our employers, or our businesses, paying for our travel.

I love the planning, the anticipation, the journey. Everything! Even the hiccups some times!

We're flying Qantas Y to New York (way down the back in one of those great 744 '70s' rows ) and Icelandair Y to Reykjavik. I can't wait. I'll have the tingles from the moment I get in that cab to the airport. We both have our fingers crossed that the mythical J upgrade from our Y+ splurge flights back from NYC come through but if not, we'll be very happy just to be in a plane again.

I don't get to travel too much but love reading AFF! I guess I'm a great armchair traveller!! I don't post too much because when I read all the others it seems I don't have that much to share. But when I do get to travel, planning and anticipation are very high!!!

I'm not sure many people are 'blase' about first or business class travel. I think even the most frequent flyer appreciates the benefits of premium travel - if not the journey itself. The biggest benefit for me is not having to worry about trying to get a good sleep before a long flight in economy... the prospect of being up all night (or all day) because you're excited... arriving at the airport tired, and then not able to sleep for another 24 hours after that... is not so appealing :(

Many on AFF don't have the luxury of employer funded travel. Many of us self fund our overseas trips and that's what AFF is all about! In many cases, flying premium cabins (or business class) can be the same price, or just a couple of hundred dollars more than flying economy. It all comes down to things like cheap airfare deals, or buying miles, or special miles earning opportunities which can later be used to redeem premium travel.

<snip>.

Count me into that. As I sleep poorly on long haul flights, I definitely don't look forward to my 3 or 5 work flights to Canada per year any more, so I don't arrive excited etc. I just can't sleep well on planes, so know I'm going to arrive zonked and probably useless for the first day or so. The only consolation is that my boss is even worse in this regard, so understands completely :) .

On the other hand I definitely look forward to leisure flights ... even though I know I won't sleep well!

Still enjoy the entire process from trying to secure Classic Award seats now the MASA's are gone and planning the trip. Still eagerly anticipate the journey as the time draws closer and closer and relaxing in the lounge prior to take off

Wife & self always travel together OS in J, self funded past few years, we like the J seats & food plus extra baggage at times, check in, lounge crawling Mrs lime likes too :) (especially HKG).

The assistance received here on AFF over the years has been outstanding and saved us a bucket load of dosh, learning about using miles and points gets us in J at less than half the cost and finding the award flights is fun much of the time.

Off to Europe Sept for a month, anticipation well yes...

Well there's that - but I was thinking pre-departure - rather than arrival. With early morning flights there's always the stress you won't sleep enough the night before (or only get an hour or two), and with evening/late night departures you're up all day. With business or first class you don't need to worry about any of that... if you don't sleep you can arrive at the airport tired and sleep on board (well... I can).

I'm not a frequent traveler but I love this forum ! I love what is important to people in so many different ways . For me the preparation to fly is less important as my flights are pleasure and not work related so my excitement starts at I book in and proceed to the lounge then boarding ect . Health reasons dictate travel in J so you could say I'm a person who's holiday starts at the air bridge lol!

I try not to sleep a lot prior to international flight. That way I'm tired and can get to sleep ... Nod off for a while much easier. It has worked well for me in both Y and J.

The planning stage is enjoyable, reading about the hotels and places to visit :)

I must admit that the constant travelling I need to do for work has taken the gloss off travel for me. I still enjoy the destinations, even if I'm only there for work, but the actual travel process itself I find wearying. That said, I spend a lot of time to try and get and get best bang for our buck (its my company) so that we (my husband is my business partner) can travel in as much comfort as possible. I don't book premium cabins much, unless on sale, and I hope like hell the upgrades come through. When they do, its still a thrill.

Off to the USA tomorrow on QF93, 2 x Y+ to J upgrades confirmed, I guess life isn't too bad :)

We are sitting on 26 days, but who is counting.:) We are in Y on QF11 but have booked 36J & K on the way over, literally at the back of the plane upstairs. I think when you don't get to fly O/S on a regular basis the anticipation levels are probably higher, but maybe I am wrong. Enjoy your trip, I know we will.

I'm down to a week tomorrow and have not felt excited yet. It's been a painful trip to organise and I feel this sucked a lot of the excitement out of it for me. I've had a few moments where I regret not pulling the pin in the early days.

I compare this to how I felt this time last year on the eve of a trip, which we had an impeccable person organising and I was so excited, dreaming about it etc etc

Just checked - 103 days to go.
Tickets booked. Check.
Upgrade PE-J applied for. Check.
Hire car booked. Check.
Conference hotel booked. Check.
Knee arthroscopy done. Fixed. (gotta be able to walk all day in Monterey and SFO!)
Already looking forward to my In-And-Out burger as soon as I land in SFO.

I cannot wait to get on that plane!

I think that's what I need. I start to feel excited but it is short lived...

I think I am scarred by the lead up to my last trip in Feb where at the last minute the fridge died, the dog needed a vet visit and something else went wrong...

I admit to not liking the travel/flight aspect. I just want to get there, would happily take the Stargate in 52 seconds if I could. I don't drink alcohol, Im not a foodie, I don't watch the entertainment so J is very much wasted on me if that stuff tickles your fancy. I sit down, shut up and zone out. I fly J for the space and comfort, which is why it exists.

I don't travel a lot for work but when I do, its long haul for only a few days work so I always tack on at least a weeks annual leave so that really helps. Most of my long haul coworkers only see airport, office, hotel, office, restaurant and airport, so I know Im lucky.

I actually enjoy the planning more than the actual trip.
